The Maw devs: DLC has 'negative stigma'

Twisted Pixel CEO says that DLC has such a bad rep, "it's not even worth attempting."
Twisted Pixel CEO Michael Wilford has spoken out followed the anger that followed The Maw's DLC release.

Twisted Pixel released a DLC episode for The Maw called 'Deleted Scene', which the team started developing once the main game hit Marketplace.

However, the 'Deleted Scene' tag caused some to think that the level was deliberately removed from the game to be released later as DLC. Twisted Pixel CEO Michael Wilford defends his team and says this is not the case, especially as he had to disclose DLC plans to Microsoft before The Maw was released.

"It seemed natural to call them 'deleted scenes' like you'd find on a special edition DVD or something," he explains. "We thought it would be cool but I think some people took it to mean that we intentionally stripped out levels that were 100 percent complete only to sell them as DLC, which is not the case."

"At this point, I think the argument could be made that DLC just has so much negative stigma attached to it that it's not even worth attempting. There are obviously examples of successful DLC, but they seem to be far and few between."

That's a pretty strong statement about DLC, which seems to polarise between those who love having the lives of their favourite game extended and those who feel DLC is just a cash cow for publishers. What do you think of DLC? Worth it or a waste of time?
