This would have been a lot easier if Microsoft had released a Mass Effect: Super Bumped Limited Special Collector's Edition in the past 12 months, then I'd put that down as my game of choice again. But they didn't. So I can't.
But looking at the games over the last 12 months, two stood out. The runner-up is Fallout 3, a brilliant game . It's buggy and I don't think it's quite as good as Oblivion but it still kept me enamored throughout. It's the first game that's kept me up until stupid o'clock in the morning since... well, since Mass Effect.
The other game, and my game of the year, is Left 4 Dead. It sucks in single player but multiplayer is soooooo, so good. It's been on constant rotation in the OXM offices since we got it (bar the month when another mag 'borrowed' it, bah) and the amount of shouting, swearing and screaming is what makes it worthwhile.

So 5.30 every weekday, you can expect to hear the sound of Ben deciding where he's going to the petrol tanks, Mike accidentally headshotting his team-mates, myself hiding in the bathroom when a Boomer is spotted and Jon endless trolling those playing despite not taking part himself. Left 4 Dead - it brings people together.
