Spoilers in films have been carefully avoided for years.

Through ruthless pursuit of those posting spoilers on forums without the appropriate tags and hounding those who threaten to reveal them in day-to-day conversation about films, we know not to give away crucial plot information that's designed to be a surprise.
But what about games? Spoilers in games aren't quite as touchy, as plot doesn't take a central role quite as often, but even so there were some cool moments built around surprise revelations. The fate of Aeris in Final Fantasy VII, the U-turn in Metal Gear Solid 2 after the opening tanker section and Albert Wesker in Resident Evil is actually a bad guy. Gah!
Here are the top 10 spoilers on Xbox 360 to date. Don't read if you don't want them to be spoiled for you...
10. SAINTS ROW
After you get caught up in gang warfare and your life is saved by 3rd Street Saint members Troy and Julius, you end up joining their gang. As a member of 3rd Street Saints, you begin eliminating rival gangs in Stilwater to take control of the city.
SPOILER: You're betrayed right at the end of the game as you're blown up on a yacht, which is why you wake up from a coma at the start of Saints Row 2.
9. STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED
As the 'secret apprentice', Darth Vader takes you under his wing as a child and teaches you the ways of the dark side as you grow-up.
SPOILER: You can face-off against and kill Darth Vader.
8. FABLE II
Fable II sees you begin life as Little Sparra', as your big sister guides you around Bowerstone. Your only concern is getting the five gold coins to snap up the music box you've been implored to buy by a mysterious hooded figure...
SPOILER: Lucien kills your sister, thus becoming your arch-enemy for the rest of the game.
7. PORTAL
There's no real plot to kick Portal off, as you wake up in a room and progress through a series of increasingly difficult challenges. As the difficulty ramps up so does the danger, but you're urged onward by a voice known as GLaDoS who promises cake once the trials are done.
SPOILER: The cake is a lie.
6. ALONE IN THE DARK
As New York succumbs to a weird disease that seems to be turning humans into scarred, rampaging monsters, Edward Carnby tries to fight his way out of the nightmare. Along the way he meets and becomes romantically involved with a girl named Sarah Flores.
SPOILER: Sarah becomes possessed by Lucifer, who can't realise all his power through her body. For the alternate ending, you kill Sarah and become possessed by Lucifer yourself, who realises his power and unleashes Hell.
5. PREY
As Tommy, you're drinking at the local bar with your grandad and girlfriend Jen when an alien force invades and sucks up the bar. When you come to, you're onboard the alien ship, trying to find Jen and your grandfather before somehow getting back to Earth.
SPOILER: You have to kill Jen after her body is fused with that of one of the monsters.
4. CALL OF DUTY 4
Though Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare isn't known for its plot, there was still a narrative threaded through its bombastic us vs. them gunplay. Unlike previous Call of Dutys, which tended to jump around between various characters, this allows you to identify with your actual character.
SPOILER: You die in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion.
3. THE DARKNESS
Your character, Jackie, is targetted by local mob leader 'Uncle Paulie' and you spend the start of the game dodging assassination attempts. The only comfort he seems to get is from his girlfriend Jenny, while he struggles to understand and control new found 'Darkness' powers.
SPOILER: After Paulie forces him to watch Jenny being executed, the emotional turmoil causes Jackie to kill himself.
2. GEARS OF WAR 2
The search began in the Gears of War as Dom Santiago was looking for his lost wife while helping Marcus Fenix. That storyline is expanded in the sequel, as more attention is paid to Dom's search to find out what happened to Maria.
SPOILER: Dom finds Maria but she's been reduced to a zombie-like state, both physically and mentally, by Locust torture. Dom decides to end her pain and kill her.
1. BIOSHOCK
After a plane crash, you swim to the nearest and only land in sight - the entrance to Rapture. Entering Rapture, you soon discover a secret underground world in disarray as you're implored by someone known as Atlas to kill Andrew Ryan.
SPOILER: Mental conditioning means you've been controlled throughout the whole game by Atlas' phrase 'would you kindly...'
