How People Get Xbox Live Bans

It's not just about getting your rude bits out, apparently...
So you've likely already read about the UNO flasher who was banned until the year 9999.

But that's not the only strange reason that sees people banned from Xbox Live.

Xbox.com is host to an 'Account Suspension and Console Bans' forum, which throws up all sorts of weird and wonderful people from all walks of life asking why they've been banned. And by that, we mean players like iX mLg SuP4 Pr0 shouting at Microsoft moderators, demanding answers within 24 hours as to why they've been banned.

It's a little embarrassing to read so to save everyone time, here's a strict list of no-nos on Xbox Live.

Tenth Prestige Lobbies

A glitch relating to Modern Warfare 2. Players found a glitch that allows you to instantly unlock 10th prestige and then started hosting lobbies that would allow players to unlock the glitch, asking for Microsoft Points in return for invites to said lobbies. Very frowned upon and very bannable, though fortunately a patch has fixed the problem.

Marketplace Theft

A glitch relating to FIFA 10. A little bit of a strange one but the Ultimate Team DLC had a glitch allowed players to download it for free. Microsoft frowned upon this trickery, understandably, and banned anyone who used the glitch to nab the content for free. Tut tut.

Avatar Modification

Some players have been using modifying their avatars via dubious means, which also leads to a console ban. We're not entirely sure why players would risk the wrath of Microsoft just to do this but there's a lot of things about player's online behaviour we don't fully understand. Consider this one added to the list.

Selling Stuff Via Your Bio

Again, don't do this. It's in the Terms and Conditions when you sign up to Xbox Live. Don't try and sell stuff, or advertise commercial services, via your Xbox Live bio. Some people have even tried combining two offences by advertising tenth prestige lobbies in exchange for Microsoft points on their profile. Doh.

Rude Bio/Motto

Now if we have to tell you about this one, you're probably already beyond help. No hate speech, no swearing, no censor bypass, no racism... all common sense, right? Don't use words you wouldn't use in front of your mum. Simple, really.

Swearing on Xbox Live

Some people think that rampant swearing and shouting at other players on Xbox Live goes unpunished. Not so. It might require the presence of a mod but it shows that it doesn't go unchecked so again, be on the safe side and play nice. It's not that hard, eh?
