Bungie talks Halo 3 downloadable content

Luke Smith discusses new maps including Purple Reign, then misses blindingly obvious 'purple reeeeign' joke.
Bungie has talked about some of the maps in its forthcoming downloadable content for Halo 3, revealing details on O.K. Corral and Purple Reign maps.

The first map is called O.K. Corral and Bungie's Luke Smith describes it as "an asymmetrical medium-sized map" with "a warm death-at-sunset feel."

The second map is called Jodrell Bank though not much is given away on this particular map bar "it's a Team Slayer main course and player counts would fit swimmingly into both Social Slayer and Team Slayer hoppers and I think it might even be possible to shoehorn a few more players into the mix without overcrowding things." Erm... okay.

The third map is Vandelay, which according to Bungie is "structurally the simplest map we've ever made". Again, Luke Smith decides talking moon language rather than English about the map's potential is the best course of action, saying "that potential could be used for devising clever contraptions, unique playspaces and when paired with Player Traits could become a test bed for new ideas from both Bungie and the playerbase."

The best map is bound to be Purple Reign, if only so OXM can sing "purple reeeeeeign" to the tune of Chocolate Rain while playing it, further tiring an already old joke that died about six months ago. Luke Smith makes no references to rain of either the purple or chocolate variety. This map also sounds like a sniper haven, with Smith explaining "subtle changes to the floor's geometry resulted in wider lines of sight for players staring down one half of the map and an intricate and strategic mix of floor/column/ramp gameplay on the other side and all of the sneaky jumps those mechanics entail." Sounds pretty good.

No date or price for the DLC pack yet, so fingers crossed that the Halo 3 community doesn't develop a Snowbound fetish between now and the new maps becoming available.
