So a while ago, when Serious Sam HD was released, my mate who lives a few minutes away from me asked if I wanted to play it on co-op. I thought it would be fun so he came round only for us to find - oh oh! - it didn't actually have splitscreen.
So we had the strange situation of me having to send him home so we could play it on co-op. It's an example of how split-screen has been neglected in favour of online co-op.
For most people, I'm guessing it doesn't even matter that much nowadays as people would rather play co-op online anyway. Look at the rage over Kane & Lynch, a game that is designed around the concept of co-op, then only serves it up via split-screen. Or Lego Indiana Jones 2, which actually received a patch so online co-op could be introduced.

And how many of you have actually got stuck into the likes of Gears of War on split-screen over Xbox Live co-op? Not as many I bet.
So the question is - is split-screen co-op still an important feature you look out for or has Xbox Live becoming as widespread as it has made it redundant?
