Five things to do in Halo Waypoint

The best bits of 343 Industries' new gaming portal
Waypoint is a new portal for all things Halo, accessible from your NXE dashboard. It's full of information, stat tracking and daily updates from the Halo community, 343 Industries and Bungie. We're taking a look at five of the features any self-respecting Halo fan should not miss.

1. Build your Halo career record
At the heart of Waypoint is the career record, a feature that's a bit of a first for console gaming. It tracks the number of achievements you've unlocked across Halo 3, Halo Wars and ODST to give you an overall ranking. It takes 2,900 cumulative gamerscore to unlock all forty milestones.

2. Unlock avatar rewards
This is the bit we're most excited about - free stuff! You unlock a cool 'Guilty Spark' prop for your avatar just for downloading Waypoint and using it for the first time. The other five avatar rewards are all pieces of clothing, including various T-shirts and recon helmets. Each one is unlocked by earning a specific achievement in ODST.

3. Check your Halo awards
You'll also be able to unlock 15 additional 'Awards' for achievements across Halo 3, ODST and Halo Wars. Each award is based on a collection of loosely related tasks, such as collecting skulls, unlocking vidmaster challenges and earning sprees. There's no material reward here, they're just a recognition of your Halo skills.

4. Watch previews of Halo Legends
Beginning this Saturday, you'll be able to stream preview episodes of the upcoming Halo Legends anime series. It's being created by some of Japan's most renowned animation studios. There are other videos too, including a very interesting 'Making of' featurette.

5. Learn about the Halo Universe
If you're new to the Halo saga and find it all a bit confusing, there's a mini-database of Halo knowledge stored within Waypoint. 'The Halo 101 section' recaps the story so far, and you can go further in depth with full synopsis for all the Halo novels. The content on Waypoint is being updated daily, so you're never short of something to read.
