Secrets of Fable II

Thought you knew everything? Think again...
Hiding secrets in a game is like a battle of wits for some developers.

In Fable II, Lionhead worked really hard to sneak as many Easter eggs, hidden quests and in-jokes as possible into every nook and cranny - even the DLC. We went straight to the developer to persuade it to reveal some of the game's most cloak and dagger secrets.

  • 1 The theatrical posters that are dotted around the major towns like Bowerstone and Oakvale are caricatures of the game's artists: Rob Watkins, James Duncan and Ian Lovett. We think the likenesses are quite remarkable.

  • 2 During the Treasure Island of Doom quest, the name Lion's Head Isle is an obvious reference to the developer. But what isn't so apparent is that the landmass is also in the shape of the Lionhead logo when looked at from above.

  • 3 The See the Future DLC contains one of the game's most well-hidden undocumented missions. To find the Dingly Egg quest, go to the cursed skull mission and head to the swamp area - you have to walk through the four stone arches and you'll see a skeleton holding an egg behind the last one. Place the egg in the basket hidden inside the tree with the signpost. A rabbit hole will open up nearby. Will you dare to find out how deep it goes?

  • 4 Completing the Dingly Egg quest gives you a commemorative mug which is decorated with three of the development team's faces.

  • 5 Fable II's senior designer Dene Carter and lead artist Simon Carter appear in the game as the Goths, Sam and Max Spade. You encounter the troublemakers in Bowerstone Cemetery reading a creepy book called the Normanomicon - a parody of the Necronomicon.

  • 6 The Crucible's announcer, Murray the Mouth, is a parody of Formula One commentator Murray Walker.

  • 7 One of the team's favourite quests is the Love Hurts mission, where you can marry the reanimated corpse of Lady Grey from the original Fable.

  • 8 Once you've purchased the Brightwood Tower, try sleeping in the bed on the highest floor. You'll be transported to a secret level occupied by the malevolent character Chesty.

  • 9 Terry Cotter's Army is a region located behind the Wraithmarsh Demon Door. The name is a pun on the first Chinese Emperor's Terracotta Army. You can find more remnants of Terry's Army in the well during the Snowglobe Quest.

  • 10 The Winter Lodge behind the Bloodstone Demon Door looks like a warm and inviting place, but trust us - it really isn't!

  • 11 Chesty makes a return in See the Future's Snowglobe Quest. You can gain access to his "super fun" birthday party by activating the orb trail once you've returned the colour to the land. It's all a bit grim though.

  • 12 The secret room hidden behind the hole in the wall in Knothole Island is based on the level designers' cubicle at Lionhead. You'll also find Hal's rifle, a parody of the Halo assault rifle.
