The best things in life aren't free. They never are. But as it turns out, some very good things in life are free anyway.

Xbox Live Marketplace is a good example. Not everyone wants to shell out 2400 MS Points for Oblivion's Shivering Isles, 1600 MS Points for Gears of War 2's All-Fronts or 1200 MS Points for the Stranglehold map pack (no-one wants to do that).
There's plenty of great content for you to lift from Xbox Live Marketplace and you don't even have to spend a single point to grab it. Here's OXM's round-up of the best free content on Xbox Live Marketplace.
Left 4 Dead Survival Pack
Valve's monstrous update to their Xbox Live hit brought a whole new mode with it - Survival mode throws four players together and puts their backs against the wall in small arenas as they hold out for as long as possible against the horde of infected. This update including a brand new map built especially for this mode and unlocked Dead Air and Death Toll just for Versus.
Crackdown Free-For-All, Four-Play Pack
Although most people remember the mammoth Key To The City DLC that would follow, Realtime Worlds still pumped out plenty of free content to keep thumbs busy prior to that. Free-For-All added lots of races and challenges to plough through while Four-Play Pack added more characters to choose from. Best of all were the... unusual gamerpics that were released alongside the content that stood out from the generic 'profile shot of character' norm.
Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack
It's a free map pack for the most popular game on Xbox Live. That's a damn good deal, however you cut it. The pack, which includes Standoff, Rat's Nest and Foundry, originally cost 800 Microsoft Points. Yet the subsequent release of two further map packs saw Microsoft change its mind on the matter. It might not have been as popular as Legendary Map Pack but it's free and you can't really argue with that...
Saints Row 2 The Unkut Pack
Whether it's an emanciated Asian man (who looks a bit like a woman) running around in his pants or a stereotypical gangsta-from-da-hood rocking the gold bling and, er, a diver's helmet, Saints Row 2 was all about customisation. Which made The Unkut Pack a welcome addition - it brought 62 extra customisation options along for the ride.
Civilization Revolution Brave New World, The Surreal
With its main mode, various difficulties, online modes, different races, four different victory methods and scenarios, Civilization Revolution already has plenty to keep thumbs busy. Which is what made the free single player map packs, Brave New World and The Surreal, even more of a gift - they weren't even necessary but rather, served as a nice bonus for those who bought the game.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Gift Pack
As a gift for the Rainbow Six community, Ubisoft dropped this map pack on Xbox Live Marketplace for its Rainbow Six Vegas 2 squad shooter. The three reworked maps included Calypso Casino, Murdertown - Dark and CQB Training - Dark. The sequel was already receiving plenty of Xbox Live love, so the addition of extra maps was a welcome bonus for the community.
And The Others: Throwback Pack (Skate 2), Xbox 360 Downloadable Content (Splinter Cell: Double Agent), millions and millions of costumes (Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires), Power Pack (Street Fighter IV)
