Epic: first Project Natal games use Unreal Engine

Microsoft's E3 demos were created using Epic's technology
Epic's Mark Rein has revealed that Microsoft's E3 demos of Project Natal - Ricochet and Paint Party - were created using Unreal Engine, which is the first game engine to support Microsoft's new motion sensor.

"The ricochet game and the paint party game are Unreal Engine 3, so we're obviously the first technology on the new platform which is kinda cool," he told us in a recent interview that's appearing in the 50th issue of OXM.

This means that developers using Unreal Engine 3, which is quite a lot of them, won't have too much trouble implementing Natal functionality into their games. How they'll do that is discussed in more depth in the 50th issue, which features exclusive interviews with Microsoft insiders on the future of Xbox 360. Watch out for it on August 4th.
