Love in Skyrim: six people you must marry

Our favourite bachelors and bachelorettes

Is your heart weary of troll-punching, Dragonborn? Do you seek the emotional and inventory-lightening consolations of earthly kinship? You need to get laid, friend. But which of Skyrim's reported 62 potential snugglables should you bed?

Belrand

Possibly the most eligible man in Skyrim. Belrand can be found at the Winking Skeever in Solitude, waiting for someone to rent out his sword arm. If you hire him (and you're wearing the all-important Amulet of Mara) he'll get down on bended knee and beg you to make it official.

Belrand is at his best in battle. His love of staffs and light armour make him the perfect ally for anybody who favours ranged weapons, whether bows or spells, and he heals up fast. On top of that, rumour has it that Belrand has an on-board glitch whereby magical staves that are given to him sometimes duplicate - helpful indeed if you're looking to make money or brandish double-handfuls of enchanted wood. Finally, Belrand is one of the NPCs that can join the Blades. Just in case you have a thing for a bloke in uniform.

Aela the Huntress

She might wear bizarre make-up, but Aela is an extremely useful spouse. Usually found hanging around with the Companions in Jorrvaskr, Whiterun. Aela takes an interest in you as soon as Kodlak appoints you leader of the Companions. Hope you don't mind sloppy seconds.

The best thing about Aela is her versatility. Besides holding her own in battle, she offers training in Archery up to level 75 (which you can get for free by trading back the gold afterwards). She can also give you work for the Companions killing monsters, and she'll share the profits from her shop. So if barmy blusher is your thing, and you don't mind skipping the sleeping bonuses associated with marriage (she's a werewolf, and thus, not much shop as a bedmate) then you'll struggle to do better than Aela. If you prefer the company of men, consider Farkas as an alternative partner.

Brelyna Maryon

She's a bit of a nightmare to woo, but once you've won her heart Brelyna makes a fantastic sidekick. A student in the college of Winterhold, Brelyna takes a shine to you once you've allowed her to perform magical experiments on you. The road to marital bliss isn't always carpeted with roses...

Brelyna is a powerful Mage, blitzing opponents with Destruction spells then conjuring Frost Atronachs to finish them off. On the downside, she can't take much damage, often running away from battle to heal herself. She's also a noisy type - flying balls of ice have a way of attracting attention - making her unsuitable as a partner for stealthy players.

Onmund

A hunky black sheep of a Nord. Onmund also studies at Winterhold, and will offer his hand to whoever recovers his family's amulet from Enthir. He goes large on Destruction magic in combat, rarely using anything else, and is tougher than most mages - you can equip him with heavy armour to help him last a bit longer. If you do marry Onmund, don't rehouse him outside the College, as a bug in the game sometimes makes him unavailable as a follower.

  1. My Orc married Mjoll , damn woman never shut's up.

Iv'e given up trying to find a bride for my Wood Elf since I found out Hroki is unavailable , I mean why do it Bethesda? , why make the only woman in the game who's face doesn't look like it was on fire till someone put it out with a shovel unavailable? , are you laughing behind your keyboards , knowing the only fit woman in the realm is unbeddable?

Or are you saving her for DLC , a kind of "Hroki does Skyrim" kind of thing , you're a bunch of teases either way Bethesda!

best description ever!!... and i fully agree..... maybey there thinking "anyone who playes skyrim is obviously a nerd and cant get any better"... gits...

  3. I married Aela the fit companion bird!

She over charges me for everything i buy from her, just like my real missis.

I just leave her at home now and collect money from her and free home cooked meals, i take lydia my housegarl bodyguard out with me and just fill her up with crap i cannot carry.

  4. i may get VERY burned for this.... but are there any girls who play skyrim???? caus ive alwase wonderd if the femail characters have different stats to the males... in all games for that matter

  5. I married Brelyna Maryon as my dark elf mage vut she disappeared halfway through the ceremony and I can't find her at Breezehome or the college! Can you get remarried if you put the amulet back on?

I guess she got cold feet XD...

  7. I haven't shacked up with anyone yet,not even got a house yet.I am thinking of going for mjoll eventhough it sounds like she does go on a bit.I think she will be the perfect match for my redguard warrior, expert in two handed blades.

  8. I married Camilla, who hasn't been a problem so far but won't stop going on about the Claw I returned to her Dad about a million years ago. For the Nine's sakes woman I've ended a civil war and prevented the end of the world since that little fetch quest, shouldn't you be more grateful for that?!

  9. The one thing Skyrim has done right in terms of marriage is provide some good looking men! Anyone who has played Fable 2 and 3 and wished to marry a fella was greeted with hundreds of ugly, old, fat, short, annoying men, while all the ladies looked buxom and beautiful.

In the world of Skyrim however, there's plenty of tall rugged men to grab hold of, all thanks to a handy amulet. If only dating was as easy in real life....

They did in Morrowind and Oblivion , they don't now though.

Yeah I married her too, it was her brother you got the claw for. After the quest you can take the blooming thing too, and they still go on about it... I always go back to him to sell my items since he has more gold than anybody else, 10,000 for some reason, if you invest in his shop.

I wish I hadn't married Camilla, for a start moving to a new home she still dresses badly...shame you can't give her some new clothes. Plus whenever I do see her, she is always bloody eating too!!... Lydia spends more time in my characters bedroom than my wife... At least Faendal does not keep visiting her anymore, he got killed by a dragon

Not been back to his shop since I wisked her away but I've been getting annoyed at the fact everyone only seems to have 2,000 gold even after I invest so I might have to pay him a visit, otherwise the 100,000 gold achievement will take me years to get as I need to visit about six merchants everytime I want to sell the loot from a single quest.

  13. I went for derkeethus. That beast cannot die plus he always wields a pickaxe no matter what you give him, like a boss!!

  14. Yes,finally got hitched to mjoll and we have a lovely house in markarth, lol.

Edit: Although maybe it was a bad idea to take the mrs adventuring with me.She won't stop telling me how much she likes the cold air, wish i could appreciate it but she is wearing armour, lol.
