Durango is the name of a state in Mexico, meaning "fertile lowland region" in Basque. It's famous for its scorpions and you might remember it from such classic films as The Life of General Villa. Durango is also the name of a town in Colorado, home to experimental dancer Steve Paxton, and some sort of cowboy-hipster shoe company. Oh, and it may be a codeword for the next Xbox.
Kotaku's carrying this particular rumour, along with not much else. The site says you'll hear the word bandied around during the project's final stages, sometime between reveal and release. It points out that Kinect was originally titled "Natal", the name of a town in Brazil. Conclusive.
Go ahead, Google "durango" and see what you find. First one to discover a trademark or job listing wins the internet.

Sorry it is just a joke we have been having since the rumored first mention of it in a post a couple of weeks ago.

She's a powerful beast is gertrude, she likes bacon, and spins discs like they were ... some superlative. Xbox Gertrude is what me and cunningsmile had sourced through various financial advisors and scientists, all roads lead to MS so they say. Lets just say Gertrude has more weight than this 'Durango' which translates from latin into Geese*.
*Possibly massive lies.

I actually thought at first that Durango was a type of fruit, like the fruit "Duran" from Super Mario Sunshine XD.

I'm still going to be calling it Gertrude when it's sat under my TV

Rumour has it that's another feature of the 'Gertrude' - it will cause hysterical laughter...along with all the other 'got to be true' rumours.

'Gertrude' to me is an underwater comms system used by NATO to talk between ships and submarines. It's an UWT or underwater telephone if you like except there is no facility to reverse charges. Called by it's UK designator 2008/9/and 10 it was fairly state of the art when I was serving and the lads generally refered to the set as 'the under blunder 'phone'.
DURANGO......not very sexy is it. Microsoft...try a bit harder if you'd be so kind. Shiny and new it may be however I'll need something a bit more ooooomph sounding to get me to part with my cash...who am I kidding, of course I'll buy it, I just won't refer to it as Durango!
Maybe they could mod it so it doesn't suck in dust, hair and fingerprints from miles around as well. Shiny black looks sexy but I want mat, black back. All my peripherals are black...now what does that say about me?

It's a generic mrs term around our way as in our gert, lol.

Even if the codename durango was true, it would just be a codename, like how star wars VI was codenamed blue harvest, or how the kinect was project natal...
