Assassin's Creed 3 release date moves to October

Ubisoft shuns traditional November launch window

Assassin's Creed 3 - or whatever Ubisoft's next Assassin's Creed title turns out to be called - will release on 30th October 2012. The publisher dropped the date in an investor call this afternoon.

Who is AC3's star? And more importantly, will he/she have an impressive beard?
It's a small but significant departure from the usual Assassin's Creed release window of early November, presumably owing to Call of Duty's continued domination of the pre-Christmas rush.

Ubisoft's "biggest Assassin's Creed to date", the new game is rumoured to be set during the American Revolution, and may yet feature prior leading men Altair and Ezio.

Got time for a bit of speculation? Here are some potential settings and what we think they'd add to the series.

Thanks Kotaku.

  1. 30th october is only two weeks early, and will likely be majorly traded in for CoD by the masses. However, I will buy this - it will be AC3 as they said they wont take the series beyond its 2012 end of the world thing, though future installments are probably coming, and could easily be set on the previous 16 subjects.

Also, the guy says (Yves) Assassin's Creed 3 is the true next generation of both the Assassin's Creed brand and interactive entertainment/storytelling in general, so it should be as much a change 2 was to 1 rather than the brotherhood/revelations games.

  2. Yes, YES, YEEESSSSS.....

One of the most entertaining franchises i have ever come across.... So cannot wait for this and Ubisoft please give us more DLC's whilst we wait for this... Reverlations is awesome...

  3. Apparently there is more desmond dlc to come soon, I haven't played revs at all though.

Haven't you even got revs then.I haven't completed it skyrim has taken over.I even bought the revs book cheap from sainsburys that's pretty goood.

  5. Looking forward to a fresh new character to play as. I hope this can be a major change to the last ones.

  6. No I can't justify spending money on essentially the same game just 5% better, I try not to with cod but it has half my friends list on that, though I'm trading that in, might even skip getting the achievements as it's a bit grind-y. ME3 CE is something I need more than cod. My mate has it (revs) on ps3 and he said he would lend it to me.

Getting AC3 though as Yves says it's truly the next gen of AC games, I forgot where I said that. AC2 was so brilliant, as was 1. Brotherhood was passable. I reckon 3 will be like 1 and 2. Could be the year of ubisoft, FC3, AC3, Ghost Recon - rumoured Splinter Cell.

  7. I can see where you are coming from on that,i have played a fair bit of revs when it first came out for a couple of weeks. It is a bit samey i suppose but it is all about the continuation of the story for me.

  8. Revs was a bit samey and suffered really badly from forgetting what it was about. Also unlike Brotherhood I think you could have probably skipped it and still been able to figure out what happened with Desmond <Spoiler> He woke up from his coma <end spoiler>

    Did look pretty though.

  9. I hope this goes back to the gameplay style of 1 and 2. I've got all in the series (Ltd Ed for 2 and Brotherhood), but found 2 to be the most entertaining. I really like the early AC's for the campain modes. They are addictive - even got my Wife into Xbox games. This'll be on my pre-order list, and the chances of me trading it for COD (yawn)...let's just say I checked my birth certificate and I'm over the age of 14. 8)

  10. A couple of weeks earlier for the release is good news for me! Any news that means I'll be continuing the AC story is great. It'll seem a bit weird, though. For the last couple of years, AC has been my Xmas holiday game. It's the only time of year when I get a decent break from work, and we don't go away anywhere, so I can look forward to very late night gaming sessions (slightly marred by a 10 month old baby getting me up 4 hours after I went to bed this time round, but never mind!). I guess I'll just buy it and then hang onto it for a few weeks.

As for the Revelations discussion, I'd really recommend getting it, if only to progress the story. Combined with the Embers animated film, the ending of Revelations makes for one of the most poignant bits of story telling I've come across in gaming. Stay focused on the story, and avoid all the side quests if you must (though AC is the completionists dream/ nightmare!), and I'd say you're in for a bit of a treat.

  11. I still think Revelations gets a lot of unfair criticism. Yes it's more of the same, yes the focus on assassinations seems to have been lost a little, but ever heard people talk about the further up the tree you go the less work you do? Do you see your boss sat at his desk on a friday afternoon? Ezio is the man by Revelations so only right he doesn't get his hands as dirty! :D (I'll stop making excuses for Ubi now!). The game was, for me, still very enjoyable!

It is time they made the move though, and like i discussed with some on another thread about this, I'm hoping for AC3 on a shiny new engine (maybe borrowed from the new R6 etc) as imo, the current engine is finally starting to show its age!

  12. If people are talking to me regarding revs then I'm sure I said my mate would lend it to me, so I will get the chance to go through it don't worry!
