Will Skyrim's DLC take us to Morrowind? "Maybe", says Bethesda

Vvardenfell, Imperial City and Solstheim originally added for spectacle's sake

Take a few turns around Stendarr's Beacon, on the border between Skyrim and Morrowind, and you'll discover a path which leads to a stone archway and an invisible wall. Beyond the wall lie stripped-back models of environments from prior Elder Scrolls games, including Solstheim, Vvardenfell and the Imperial City.

Staging grounds for Skyrim's first DLC packs? Not intentionally. According to Bethesda's Todd Howard, the models were included to give Skyrim's alpine explorers something to gawp at. He wouldn't rule out the possibility of "using" the off-map areas at some point, however.

"The reason they are there - and I will not say if we are or are not using them in the future - is when we first built the landmass for Skyrim we knew we were going to have these tall mountains," Howard told Kotaku.

"And what can you see see? We have views early in the project where you can see into the [neighbouring] province from the other game. We needed to have something [there]. It's not high detail. If you walk there, from a distance it's...yeah, the stuff is there.

"And the thinking is, maybe we'll use it one day, but our larger worry was, I'm going to climb up on top of a mountain and look that way. What will I be able to see there? We try to cover all those angles as much as we can."

Here are eight things we want and eight things we don't want from Skyrim's DLC packs.

  1. JUST GIVE US THE DLC!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I don't care what they do to be honest i know beforehand i will still love it.These and a handful of other devs are the reason i haven't become bored with gaming.

  3. JUST GIVE US THE DLC!!!!!!!!!!!

Got some horse armour if you want it

  4. I want this so bad, looks like its taking them a little to long for a DLC.... i did hear they are releasing it sometime next week but dont quote me on this.. apparently its going to cost 1200MS points..

  5. Oh hujiki I would hope you are right but think not. Where did you hear that?

  6. I was only thinking earlier today i'm not sure i have enough to do in skyrim and how i wish they'd have made the world a little bigger :|

Seriously, Morrowind sounds awesome but selfishly i am very happy to wait until my quest to-do list comes back to double digits!

  7. I would like them to hurry up and release all of things that were created during Bethesdas GameJam thingy

If for nothing else but the Colussus MudCrab coming out of the water

The game NEEDS BADLY to have some newer larger and tougher enemies added to it - similar to what Fallout 3 did with Point Lookout's mutant rednecks perhaps?

Damn you with your good points making my post instantly redundant (like many of my others)!

Haven't been on skyrim for a while actually and remember that feeling of 'enemy fatigue' from fighting yet another bear/wolf/bandit so yes, new enemies would be very welcome!!

  9. My DLC wishlist stays rooted firmly in Skyrim , Iv'e already been to Morrowind thanks.

More enemies is an absolute must , but what I really want is questlines for the following:

A proper Vampire questline making being a vamp actually worthwhile. The same with werewolves similar to Bloodmoon. And if you don't fancy becoming one of the undead , a questline for the Vigilants of Stendarr with you becoming a hunter of the Deadra and the undead.

A trip to one of the Deadric realms would be cool as well.

  10. So that's why nobody in Skyrim has insulted me by saying "I have fought Mud Crabs tougher than you!" because obviously they have seen or heard about the colossus Mud Crab!!!!... I would settle for horse armour right now... Is it me or are horses really weak in Skyrim despite their hardy look... I have lost quite a few!

Out of the GameJam.. I would settle for mounted combat is a must for your character and fighting against enemies.. I think it would be quite cool doing battle or maybe shooting a arrow and knocking a enemy off his horse.. fighting against various mounted enemies (No running away).

Maybe a mounted character could have a crossbow. Mounted Combat Perk, Plus new weapon/perk Crossbow. Horses Perk.. Perhaps you could Smith different types of horse armour, Daedric horse armour for ultimate protection. :)

  11. Never bother riding horses - too much of a pain in the arse getting off and on

plus you cant shimmy jump up mountains on horseback.

  12. Correction - off his horse. not of..

I would like a chance to kick some more Thalmor's butts their so contemptuous to everyone... The voice of the Thalmor actor bugged me for ages, heard it before, then I realised it was Neil Dickson (Biggles The movie/Dynasty),, Yeah I watched Dynasty showing me age I know..

Ok got to go now and play Mass Effect 3 demo just to piss me girlfriend off even more!!.. I mean why release a demo on Valentines Day... Hope she likes the Skyrim widow t-shirt I bought her off Ebay...

  13. Never bother riding horses - too much of a pain in the arse getting off and on

plus you cant shimmy jump up mountains on horseback.

You could have fun fighting against mounted opponents though, or fleeing from them :)

I've been on a horse once and got off after two minutes when I realised that I ran faster.

sorry but the morrowind game was set i n Vvardenfell which is only a bout half of morrowind
i hope they put the whole of morrwind in a dlc as since red moutain erupted the landscape would have changed it would be great to expoler and see what has changed

  16. I want another daedric realm like shivering isles.Let's have another of the daedric princes have you running around doing nasty deeds for them.

I'm well aware of where Morrowind is set thanks , but hey if you want the entire province as DLC that's fine by me , of course as it's actually bigger than Skyrim is you'll probably see it just in time for the next ES game , in the meantime , I'll stick with the hope that the DLC expands on the game itself and adds more quests and enemies , rather than having to wait 5 years for a wasteland to wander about in.

well vvardenfell is already in the game all they have to do is let you get there and add textures and such like it would probly take 6-9 months

  19. well vvardenfell is already in the game all they have to do is let you get there and add textures and such like it would probly take 6-9 months

But that's not what you said , you said you wanted THE WHOLE OF MORROWIND , and even if you've changed your mind , do you seriously think they have mapped all of Vvardenfell , towns , dungeons and all and stuck it on the disc already , it's a lump of textured rock put there to give you a sense of perspective when you stare out to sea.

i was making a point . it does not take long to make a town or stuff like with the oblivion construction kit i made a few towns in a few days and i not very good all it would take them a while to make the new textures but most of the towns and dungenons would'nt be there becaues of the red mountain eruption and they could make it 1.5 times the size of shivering isle that would be fine and lastly i never said said the towns and dugeons were already in it try learning to read before insulting someone
    chicken chaser

  21. Woah there fella , where exactly am I insulting anyone? I can read just fine thanks , in fact I read the bit where you said "Vvandenfell is already in the game" quite well "all they have to do is let you get there and add textures" I read that too , I also read this bit "most of the towns and dungenons would'nt be there becaues of the red mountain eruption " in which case , we get back to my original point , Iv'e been there already , when it was thriving , why the hell do I want to visit it when it's a wasteland , there's a reason the Dunmer don't live there anymore you know.

I am curious to know how you discovered my poultry chasing antics though.

Yawn , I'm well aware that games aren't made around me , but this is a topic for us to say what we want as individuals in the upcoming DLC , not for us to say " Well , I'd quite like some of the factions to be expanded or have some improvements made , but Terry and a couple of other people want Bethesda to rebuild Morrowind so I guess I'll say that instead." Seriously , have a look outside of OXM , look at some other forums and game discussions regarding Skyrim , I think you'll find that a trip back to Morrowind is pretty low on most fans lists of what they would like to see.

  24. i'm sorry to be the one to tell you but games are not made around you

What about Snake Eater? That was basically a documentary of my time in the sixties on acid, and then there was when I had to fight off the reaper invasion of earth - I think they're doing something about that. Don't forget Fable was all about Maverick McCools Chicken chasing antics... I think you're just jealous of the rest of us having video games made around... us :P

they tried but it was banned in most of the world

  26. Sorry Bezza , I wasn't in Fable , I was supposed to be in Fable 3 , Peter Mollingbollocks told everyone I was in Fable 3 and how it was to be the greatest game ever , but I , along with all of the other cool stuff was cut or stripped away , and that's why Fable 3 is shit.

I did work for Sariff industries as head of security for a bit though , and I spent a while as a cowboy with my whore wife and strangely well read son , till they turned into zombies anyway.

Don't think they made games about it though.

I think I found your wife and son on my lawn this morning along with a lot of other zombies...I also seem to have a lot of very defensive plants I don't remember having yesterday.

  28. Sorry I couldn't reply, I've been smithing for the past 12 hours waiting for the guy to appear back in his shop again, and then I went into town and someone gave me something to do, then another guy needed something, then someone else, then I read a book with something to do, then my wife gave me loads of gold even though I hadn't seen her for the past three weeks whilst I've been smithing and shouting at lakes. That's the north for you though, full of distractions.

  29. I thought you had been living in a cardboard box for the past week, lol.I myself have been raiding ,dark, dank, crypts looking for unusual tresures. We do things different to down south, lol.

  30. i hope that they bring some of the PC mods out with the DLC
