Mass Effect 3's first DLC pack will be called "From Dust". Will it put Shepard in charge of a primordial world, with real-time lava and water and tribes of doughty yet fragile believers? No, it probably won't, but a man can dream.
The news comes courtesy of a Gamestop customer, who paid $10 for a code. Good old citizen journalism. Fanks, VG247.
BioWare and EA have yet to detail Mass Effect 3's DLC strategy, but you can expect it to be substantial. The game already offers extensive networking functionality, including Facebook game "Mission Command" and an iOS companion app, "Datapad". The former unlocks Xbox-360-exclusive benefits.

This's also discussed on BSN and people there asked the Devs about this and there's no answer to this yet.

What ever it's called we can be pretty certain that Mass Effect WILL have DLC. EA like to keep charging us as long as possible, and the wealth of good quality DLC for ME2 pretty much guarentees that.
I for one aren't that fussed what it's called or when it comes so long as it maintains Bioware's usual story standards and is reasonably priced...otherwise EA is no stranger to 50% off sales.

Yeah ME2 had great prices for DLC, 560 for everything bar Overlord and Shadow broker at 800 each. However, with DA2 charging 800 a pop we could get screwed.

ME2's DLC was great, Cerberus Network was actually worth the 1200MSP Online Pass charge, unlike either Dragon Age, or any other EA game I can think of. Wasn't Overlord 560MSP as well? I remember being a bit put off by Shadow Broker's 800MSP price tag, until I played it, and then I thought it was worth it.
I hope ME3's DLC is in the same style as ME2's, but first BioWare need to finish Shepard's story properly. I'm still concerned that EA and BioWare have compromised the storytelling in their efforts to bring in a more "mainstream" audience. Hopefully my concerns are unfounded.

Without spoiling too much, considering the title it's mostly the day one DLC that comes CE edition of the game.

I would also think it could also be an aftermath DLC, "From Dust" can mean 2 different things, either the very beginning, or after the end (as in rising).

It got me curious. However, when you do the math, you find that you end up paying over 100£ for the complete game ( game + all DLC's). Together with the rumors about the next consoles generation being 2nd-hand proof, I'm starting to wonder when will it stop. Perhaps only when we actually stop bying DLC's that should have been in the game in the first place. Most times, they are. Just locked by a code...

Good point, but other times (ME2 and Fallout being good examples) the DLC is like receiving a mini sequel without having to wait 3 years and fork out full price. I thought Fallout New Vegas did a great job of basically turning it's DLC into one long episodic sequel charting your battle with the other Courier.
So long as developers stick to doing this I'll keep buying DLC happily.

To be honest though, it's not that bad, Kasumi (560), Overlord (560), Shadow Broker (800) and Arrival (560) only amount to probably £20, even when you buy the Collectors edition (see what I did there?) it comes to £80 rather than £60, (at the time you could get games for £30 because it was before the tax went up so really we're talking £50) which to me is a great price considering CoD which has been £55 for the last 3 years and therefore at least £40 retail adds on at least 2400mp (£20) in dlc, with Blops going for an extra £40 worth, as well as MW3, which admittedly had a £70 hardened edition.

In ME2 , Cerberus Network alone costs 1200 MS. Sure it was included in the new game ( but not if you get it second-hand ), but to the Kasumi-Hidden Memories(560), Lair of the Shadow Broker (800), Arrival (560), Overlord(560). Aegis Pack(160), Firepower Pack(160), Equalizer Pack(160), Alternate Appearance Pack 1 and 2 (320), the total for DLC's ( not counting the interactive story charged at 320 MS, Cerberus Network and Blood Dragon Armor ) is still 2280 MS.
I agree that some DLC's are worth the individual price. It's the final totals for a complete experience that concern me.
Bezza89 on 16 Feb '12 said:
That is still £20 man, not even that I don't think, and that's with the utterly useless gun and character packs that add nothing to the total experience.
Come now, someone buys Mass Effect second hand and they deserve to be charged for the cerberus network
Cerberus is included in the price, if you're buying second hand then you should factor this in, but they release the product with the idea the only charges amount to £20, they probably don't care if someone's bought second hand, because they wouldn't get any money for that - so £10 for cerberus and essentially the rest of the game is fair, but that's a whole other story about passes really.

It comes at that price with several IF 's.
1200 MS cost you 10£??
Only IF your UK or US resident,or IF you have your bank account linked to your Xbox Live, IF you bought the game new, IF...
if you don't have your bank info linked to your account, MS Points bought on a retailer will be more expensive. If your not a UK or US resident, general prices for everything in Live will be more expensive.
Ex:
Mass Effect 2 in total, with all the DLC's bought separatly ( the ones I listed above, not Cerberus Network, Interactive story and Dragon Armor) costed me close to 120.00 Euros. The game inself, in it's normal version was 71.00 Euros. 1200 MS costs 20.00 euros.
I know what you're thinking. If I was going to buy it all, why didn't I buy the N7 Colector Edition?
Because the N7 colector's Edition didn't even got distributed in most countries.
Bezza89 on 16 Feb '12 said:
Ah well you got, or get, royally screwed my friend. Retailer cards of MS points are always cheaper than off xbox live, 2000 points is £17 off xbox live, and £15 online from - amazon say. I'm not sure what having a bank account linked to xbox live has to do with anything, but if you're on xbox live buying cards from amazon uk would surely be redeemable in wherever you live? What is euro conversion anyway... 70 euros is this now or 2 years ago? I honestly paid £30 on release without discounts, get out of your country lol!!!
Imagine CoD for you - it'd be 200 euros with dlc.
It is hard to show you how mass effect dlc is cheap when you seem to be paying twice as much, so touche there.
TigusVidiks on 16 Feb '12 said:
71.00Euros are close to 59.00£
But yeah, it's nothing I haven't learned to live with. Of course, 2nd-hand games become an important source for many gamers here. Or in alternative, they have to wait 1 or 2 years for after a release for the price to go down. This turns the market irrelevant for Microsoft. Less than half of the total gamers can afford to buy their games new. The numbers of sales are too low to justify a higher investment in the whole service in the country. So, basically I pay 60 euros a year for a Xbox Live service, that doesn't include Zune or Sky or any equivalent, and where many(not all) Colector Editions don't ever show up here, unless you order trough the net. The shiping costs make this practice not worth it. That's why Playstation 3 completly owns the market in many european counties. In here, I would say 70% of domestic consoles are PS3. The games library is 5 times larger in any store for PS3. And well... 120 euros is 20% of the minimal wage. So when I hear rumors about how to make life harder for those who buy 2nd-hand games, it makes me sad.
Now, I'm aware that I live in one of the many countries were prices are higher and there's nothing I can do about it. Fortunatly I can afford the games I like and buy them new. But even as 80.00£, to me it seems an excessive price for a full product of software with no utility except leisure, partially digital which carries the risk of disapearing or becoming useless as soon as the next generation arrives. A product, that in a 5 years time will have virtually no market value.

Just out of interest which country do you live in? I only ask as your little idea says UK, and I'm guessing that's wrong.
And welcome to the forum, it's been nice getting to know you.
TigusVidiks on 16 Feb '12 said:
Thank you. I'm in Portugal. OXM also gets to here in it's UK edition.
Bezza89 on 16 Feb '12 said:
That is an interesting point about second hand sales in non-uk/us countries where it seems like the best option for purchase, especially considering the pricing.
TigusVidiks on 16 Feb '12 said:
It is. Even titles with online pass, if you buy second-hand and get the online pass separatly, it will still be worth the diference. Specially because 2nd-hand stores like GAME and Gamestop, are not so tied to the local prices and can present a 2nd-hand game at a very appealing price right from the start.Spain, France, UK, we end up finding 2nd-hand games coming from all those places less than a week after it's been released.
And many gamers simply import from the UK and France. It's still cheaper. I don't do it mainly because the diference is so small that it's not worth waiting weeks.
