UK CHARTS: Final Fantasy, Metal Gear double-team FIFA 12

EA Sports colossus in non-chart-topping shock

The latest UK software sales charts are in, and it's another victory for FIFA 12. Wait a minute, that number there's a "4", not a "1". My God, man, are you serious? This is like that bit in Apollo 13 when the screen clears and they see the parachutes. We read you, Houston! Send flowers and chocolates.

The games responsible for EA's failure to clinch yet another number one are the majestic Final Fantasy XIII-2, recipient of a bronze-plated OXM 8/10, and three-in-one remaster Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, awarded a giddy 9/10 despite its antique looks.

FIFA didn't even have the satisfaction of pipping stablemate Battlefield 3 to third, though it was able to hold down Namco's fun but unassuming SoulCalibur 5.

In other news, it is our immense pleasure to report that this week's UK all-formats top 10 doesn't have a Zumba Fitness game in it. Indeed, the "family fun" genre at large is conspicuous by its absence, with only Just Dance 3 clinging on at ninth.

All data care of UKIE and Chart-Track, and for the week ending 4th February.

  1. MW3 is at seven! When on earth did it drop from number one? Is it actually becoming less popular?

Didn't it drop from number 1 the second week of release? I know it certainly wasn't long before it started to miss out to Skyrim and Zumba Fitness.

I don't think it's getting less popular (quite the opposite) just that everyone is buying on day one so it lacks longevity.

  3. MW3 hasn't been number one in ages. It seems some people at least are seeing it as it is, a rehash of the same game year on year. Glad to see Skyrim still holding it's own, a great game worthy of every bit of praise it gets.

  4. It would be nice to see an activity chart to see if CoD has truly lost favour.

  5. Nice to see Battlefield 3 up near the top again.

  6. Maybe my eyes are deceiving me but do i now see not one but two Zumba games in the chart?!

How/why/when did this happen? The world is going crazy... :|
