Modern Warfare 3 DLC locked to Elite member Gamertags

Call of Duty players lash out at terms of service breach

Exclusivity just got a little more exclusive. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's recently released DLC maps are apparently locked to the Xbox Live account of the Call of Duty: Elite member who bought them.

Besides being a not inconsiderable pain in the backside, the restriction contradicts the download's terms of service, which note: "you can use this item on the first Xbox 360 console you downloaded it to. Access to this item will also be granted to all users on this first console."

Outraged Elite members brought the issue to Joystiq's attention last night.

"I just tried on my other account and you are right, I cannot use the maps on the same Xbox with another gamertag even though it's all on the same xbox," wrote one user.

"My girlfriend, whom I live with, cannot play the maps. My friend's teenage sons cannot play the maps," declared another.

Activision has yet to comment.

Premium Elite members get early access to all of Modern Warfare 3's upcoming downloadable "content drops", including maps, Spec Ops missions and new modes. Hit this link for a full release calendar.

The first two maps are Piazza and Liberation. Are you playing? And have you had trouble sharing them round?

  1. I can understand the reasons why other accounts cannot access the maps as they are specifically for Elite Subscribers. I understand that these other accounts are NOT subscribers and therefore shouldn't be able to have early access.

However it is a breach of the terms of service so maybe this is a loophole for those to exploit

  2. Meh, go play battlefield. Way cooler

Not to me - I do own both though.....

  4. Well hopefully the maps will become "unlocked" once they are released on Live and they lose their exclusivity. If not, then Activision are taking the absolute michael if they expect those people with multiple accounts/Xboxes to pay twice for them.

I have heard that it was an Error by them and that they were working to fix it so that other gamer tags on the SAME console (as long as they have a gold live account) can play them too....
