Kinect Star Wars release date spotted

Retailer promises great disturbance in the Force this April

Kinect Star Wars will Force-jump onto UK shelves in April, according to the latest Argos catalogue.

Microsoft currently has it pencilled in for spring 2012, having delayed it to achieve the game's "full potential."

A divisive move, that. On the one hand, no R2D2-branded Xbox 360 for Christmas; on the other, more breathing space for a promising yet troubled project.

According to a Microsoft spokesperson contacted by MCV, "we'll have more to announce soon." Here's hoping they've sorted the latency out. Do, Terminal Reality, or do not. There is no "try".

  1. Sorry, but....ARGOS? Forgive me for not getting too excited. I'll wait until I see some official word. :D

  2. It's only the same as other stores that sell games putting release dates out, would GAME be more believable because it only sold games? They probably have procedures to follow to ensure the dates don't slip.

As I see it argos is more believable because they don't only sell games and are probably more lax on the whole release date front.

I would believe GAME slightly more yes. Argos is a cheap catalogue store...hardly the pulse of the gaming industry!

  4. But Game know full well that if they put up an incorrect date (as they frequently have, their website still has a couple of titles that were axed over a year ago) their customers will shrug, understand that's the nature of the business and buy something else.

Argos have to print, at great expense, millions of catalogues and their customers tend to be less understanding if something isn't available. Seriously, I've seen Argos customers come to blows because something was out of stock, never mind doesn't exist.

For this reason I'm guessing that Argos would REALLY do it's homework before posting a date. If they are quoting that date, someone gave it to them.

  5. Can't recall ever buying a game from Argos, but I suppose I'm not really its target market.

I'm still not sure about this one, I don't really have enough room in my house for Kinect as it is, and it would warrant purchasing it just for this game, which seems foolish when the initial impressions have been so lacklustre.

  6. I've bought the odd game from Argos, occasionally certain titles are considerably cheaper than GAME/Gamestation. What bugs me about them is that after about two or three months, most of the range in the catalogue is out of stock and they don't advertise price drops. I got Super Mario Galaxy 2 brand new for my Wii from Argos for £17.49 (and I've never seen it anywhere near that price since) as a special offer last October, but only because I was searching their website for something else at the time. It's worth giving their site a look, because you can even check whether your local store has a copy of the game you want and reserve it before you leave the house.

  7. Pre-ordered with Argos. Awesome*.

    * I jest of course

I hope I have to eat my words  as I'm keen to see this game. It'll either be a masterpiece or a flop. Here's hoping it's not the latter.

  9. I'm willing to predict that:

    a) It'll be shit

    b) It'll have the star wars music and lightsabers so we'll buy it, forgive it its flaws for a while before realising the reviews that told us it was shit were in fact correct - after all, is there anyone out there who doesn't want this to be good? (although i still think it would be better on Wii (U) as you're holding a lightsaber type controller - not a breadstick Bezza!)

    c) It'll sell by the truckloads regardless of reviews, metacritic etc. Lets face it, if you put a star wars badge on a turd and marketed it as 'Cack of Chewbacca' people would buy it!

    d) The achievements will be simple to obtain to tip the balance of the achievement whores - feel there's a certain stigma/lethargy/diminished expectation around the game now so they need to do something to lift that!

Anyone else really tempted though by the R2 machine? The slim black one fits nicely under the TV and matches everything with its nice glossy finish etc, but it's not R2. Oh how i hate you clever marketing b******s, absolutely no reason to 'upgrade' but you still have me slobbering over it!!

  10. Don't diss my Cack of Chewbacca, it was a numbered limited edition!

  11. Yeah the machine looks genius, rather than putting a logo on or making it look like something, or even putting a claymore on the side (bf3) they've redesigned it to be R2D2 style and not R2D2. If I could trade mine in for free I would do, but my Betty is ever strong.

Breadstick > Wii U. Cheaper too, though use a stale one as they break easily

I predict Kinect Star Wars - is still shit, still has the latency of a giraffe, has no story, incredibly repetitive gameplay with random elements thrown in to make people buy it (be a rancor!... Why? I've never gone, oh, I really want to be that for ten minutes), my last is that it will make lucas arts slap themselves and release Battlefront 3 and KotoR 3 in 2014 as a result of universal critical panning and sales drops.

  12. I like the sounds it makes when you turn it on and when you open the disc tray, but seeing as the new console may be about before xmas 2012, i don't think worth it!

  13. the last decent starwars game i played was lego star wars... so if this is crap... i may have to go all darkside on them and lightsaber there faces off... or just refuse to buy any of lucasarts games ever again

  14. I predict Kinect Star Wars - is still shit, still has the latency of a giraffe,

Giraffes have latency? Or is it just you've been trying jedi mind tricks at the safari park and they're slow to catch on? :D

Holy (chewbacca) crap, i'd forgotten the sodding thing makes noises  If they ship it with a free portal 2 replica (or real!!) turret then i might have to sell family members to fund a purchase...!

The number, quite obviously being 2? :)

  16. I could not think of anything that had poor latency. Perhaps a sloth would be more apt.

    Now you're being ridiculous...!

We're already quite clearly the subject of sloth mind tricks - do you really think a creature could be that useless and lazy and have survived this long on the planet when something as awesome as the tiger is near extinction? Sloths appear as docile, stupid and apparently 'un-latent' because that's how they want to be perceived, lurking in the shadows, taking down elephants with their breadstick lightsabers and cat maces before returning to the trees and looking suitably vacant...
