Todd McFarlane talks secret Halo 4 characters

343 is "pushing the envelope with the visuals, storytelling and gameplay"

Famed comic creator, McFarlane Toys founder and Kingdoms of Amalur artist Todd McFarlane is designing action figures based on Halo 4. Which means he's had insider access to its characters, guns, levels and storyline. Throw us a bone, Todd. G'wan.

"343 still has some surprises to reveal, so we can't give you all the details just yet," MacFarlane wrote in a release. "But we've seen what they're working on, and Halo 4 will be worth the wait!

"Each new Halo game is a significant entertainment event," he added. "Halo 4 marks the return of the Master Chief and Cortana, plus the introduction of new characters, weapons and locations sure to excite long-time fans.

Even in figurine form, the Chief commands respect.
"We're really excited to be working with the all-star team of 343 Industries. Microsoft has assembled an incredible group of developers to ensure Halo's continued place among the top entertainment franchises. 343 Industries is pushing the envelope with the visuals, storytelling and gameplay, and we can't wait until fans get their hands on Halo 4."

According to a launch calendar posted over at Halo Waypoint, McFarlane will show off three never-before-seen Halo 4 character designs in August and four in November, building up to the game's tentative Christmas 2012 release window.

Halo 4 branded toys are also due to appear at a London event next week.

Check out our lengthy Q&A for everything we currently know about Halo 4. 343's Frank O'Connor feels that "regurgitating" Bungie's battle-proven template isn't wise, but anticipates negative reaction to any changes the studio makes.

  1. I have the utmost faith that 343 can deliver, but i don't think that they should call it Halo. I mean the rings are now defunct without their control station, so they should give it a new name that is inclined to the new story. Even if it is something like Halo: Reclaimer or even simply Reclaimer on its own (or something a bit snazzier) it might make all the difference as people won't be comparing it as much to the previous trilogy, therefore they would be more free to make changes to the universe the way they see fit. Plus the Elites best appear in there to some extent, and if the flood are returning, you can pretty much guarantee I won't be.

  2. ^ Point on pretty much, agree.

I'm sure 343 will deliever and give us a Halo game that captures the magic, mystery, unknown and just awe of CE.
Now that the rings have been destroyed, the name is still relevant in a way as we may be exploring the forerunnners world and their locals, all who have ties with halo...but yes, Reclaimer sounds more mystifying than Halo 4...

Some things i would like to see:
    1) Elites and ODSTs making a return. Now that the war is still over, i guess the two races would ought to be getting along (politic clashes...) but i imagine several 'rogue' or 'awol' or 'rebel' squads/units/zealots around, causing some trouble...possible high value target side quests (aka Mercs 2)
    2) Some sort of hub world similar to ODST or Borderlands but just bigger, full of mystery, secrets, generally unknown, outposts, villages, towns, cities...various vehicles to drive, fly, ride to get to locations...space/zero gee possibilities?
    3) The Reach Engine please
    4) Fingers crossed the pistrol and old assualt rifle make a reurn, smg from ODST and please, let there be a flame thrower or crossbow :)
    5) Customisation/ slick first person scenes (aka when encountering the zelaot elites for the first time) from Reach making a return and maybe possible upgrades/attachments to weapons.
    6) Finally, no Flood...one of the reasons why i love and prefer Reach and ODST. New enemy please...

Other than that, i'm very much looking forward to it, but a xmas window release? Sept/Oct would be grand

Btw, I'm jst gutted Sgt. Johnson won't be making a reutrn :( so please let there be a Chris Rocks character in there
