Xbox Live is experiencing difficulties tonight, according to the service's official status page.
"A subset of European users will have issues connecting to Xbox LIVE," it notes. "Users will have issues using the contact features on support.xbox.com."
Hope you're not affected. Have a good night.
UPDATE: It's an issue specific to Virgin broadband customers, according to Xbox Live heavyweight thevowel. He advises that you check the Virgin Media status page for more news, assuming of course you have the ability to do so.
Comiserations to all involved. Consider sticking to Skyrim, Assassin's Creed Revelations or Saints Row the Third for tonight's entertainment, there's bound to be some bits in there you haven't seen it yet.

Yeah I noticed!!!!!
I couldn't even sign on to Live for a while and I wanted to download a couple of demos - seems to have downloaded those now though!!

I haven't been able to connect all day - even though my ISP (Virgin Media) is also having its own problems!
The weird thing is that its not just Xbox Live that I'm struggling with, also xbox support and the main Xbox site as well that aren't even reachable from my home computer, yet my work computer which I'm on now works just fine
I really hope this gets sorted ASAP as I was looking forward to the Kingdom of Amalur demo...

Ahhh mabey thats why things have been messing up.
I downloaded elite in sleep mode (which took ages) then when I turned my console back on the xbox asked me to update, it wont get past 50% not shure if this is to do with the issues, it's getting annoying now.

I was wondering if you can shed some light on the virgin media thing as I can been having problems with them myself but after ringing them they say there is nothing wrong with my internet and it should not keep cutting off for 4hours at a time only to let me back on for about 5mins before kicking me off again.

Yeah I thought VM was being cranky the last few days, though I haven't noticed any problems as such on Live. But thanks to Edwin and Jon for the updates, your thought is appreciated guys!

I had this problem yesterday just after lunch. By the evening it was working again. And I'm on Sky it's a miracle I can play on Xbox live with them!
bamozzy on 17 Jan '12 said:
According to xbox this issue has been sorted now. They say if you are still having problems though to let them know.

Am I the only reader to spot the ironic virgin advert header above this article (at time of writing)?
Makes me glad to be a sky customer for now.

Ah...... the irony...... a virgin media advert in the background of oxm........

I'm with VM and I've been having problems with this for the last few days. The advice about sticking to Skyrim is great...except I last played it round my girlfriends and all my saved games are on cloud!!! No Skyrim for me
And I agree with the others; Go home guys, we appreciate the dedication but you need a work/life balance.

I have Virgin's 100mb service and it is atrocious. It is either down or way slower than i used to get on the 20mb service.
Last night was a hangover from them trying to fix an issue which cropped up on tuesday night across both the tv and internet services, the website was reporting a fix for wednesday morning but it appears to of not been sorted when they had hoped.
It's doing ok now still not getting what i'm paying for though.
This bump in speed and reduction in cost that they are advertising right now is specifically for customers like me who are about to leave. If you can access the forums on Virgin Media's website you can see i'm not the only one who thinks so too.

I know a few people with Virgin broadband, and they have lots of issues. Me? I have good old O2 Broadband (up to 16mb - and I get around 14mb). Even managed to blag it for just over £8 a month....and have no issues.
GHOSTY05 on 23 Jan '12 said:
I used to have VM 50MB and had the same issues, it was worse than 30mb.
I have gone back to 30mb and its much more stable, although still drops out every now and then, but much afer bet than 50mb or 100mb
KernowDevil23 on 23 Jan '12 said:
My heart bleeds for all of you guys who get such terrible service from your 30-odd meg broadband services...........Try 1.2mb MAX and then come back to moan.
Clanger67 on 23 Jan '12 said:
But at least you live in a beutiful part of the country to make up for it.My parents always used to take me to cornwall every year on holiday and always wanted to live there.
KernowDevil23 on 23 Jan '12 said:
Okay, I'll grant you that.
The surfing, beaches, countryside and general way of life do marginally outweigh my need for a respectable broadband speed!
Waffles2541 on 24 Jan '12 said:
Mine surprisingly worked in the morning reasonably ok, but my connection was shoddy. By about lunchtime it all comes down for a couple of hours, usually when I am right in the middle of something. Sort it out virgin, or i'm moving to Sky.
Captain_Chao5 on 24 Jan '12 said:
I'd go back to dial-up to live in Cornwall
SidTheSloth on 24 Jan '12 said:
Don't you all listen to Kernow, he's just sympathy hunting, cornwall has internet on a par with london don't you know:
