Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo also hits Xbox Live
EA gives you timed early access to the world of Amalur
EA and Big Huge Games' Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo is now available to download from Xbox Live, providing you've 1.90 GB of hard drive space going spare. Don your prosthetic pointy ears and head this way.
Nine fireballs later, the strange lady realised the error of her ways. The demo is exclusive to Xbox Live Gold subscribers, features the game's tutorial and gives you 45 minutes to run amok in the world itself. We'll run an article on what you should prioritise shortly. Complete the demo, and you'll unlock some groovy Mass Effect 3 weapons.
I've been playing this demo for ages now, I've unlocked the armour, and if I complete the demo I get the guns, I don't like this game, so can anyone confirm how to complete it, I have 20 minutes left and it says I'm not allowed to continue with the main quest.
** You get the weapons after the time runs out regardless of what you do.
Judging by the posts they will get more hits from the demo than the full game.Hence the sweetener of mass effect three goodies as was mentioned before. But then its ea what more can you say.

Is that all you need to do (play for 45 minutes) - cool!!
Quite a few have said they don't like the demo and I am only downloading it for the Mass Effect 3 unlocks - certainly wouldn't buy it anyway!!
I have to say i just wanted the mass effect 3 goodies but i found myself falling for this game big time i only played about 30mins (will have to do 45 mins tonight) but i loved the combat and was surprised at how deep of an rpg it actually is! Ok its no SKYRIM but its fun and looks good not amazing but its very vibrant and bright and it reminds me of world of warcraft which is no bad thing! I will be buying this game as i have not had a proper fun time playing an rpg since torchlight.
I like it, its more Fable than even the original Fable which is a very good thing for me. The ME stuff is just a great bonus. Quality English voice actors not the American McBain rip-off's from Skyrim, Beautifully coloured environments, not a hint of the brown's. Easy yet responsive fighting which does show a lot of potential for growth. Only thing is i will get it but there is so much else this year which sits above it on the gaming "Pull List" it will not be purchased on release which means i will end up paying much less for it a few months down the line. Sweet for me not for the Dev's. Oh Well...

This is the really unfortunate thing in gaming right now. We all want new IPs and games that aren't sequels, yet with the sheer number of games coming out and a lot of people restricted to what they can buy financially it's inevitable that the money will go on the big name 'proven' titles, meaning little incentive for innovation and new titles. It's nobodies fault really, but if it became 'cool' to shun the big names until they were cheap and buy the smaller titles on launch the gaming world would rebalance itself one would hope and everything would be rosy!
Unfortunately i know this'll never happen, but i'll be buying this day 1 as im lucky to be in a position to take a risk on it, just hopefully it sells enough that EA (and this example could be attributed to other new IPs) make their money back and feel the risk in publishing the title was justified.
On a slight aside, i actually can't think of much apart from Mass Effect this year to get excited about? GTA maybe (as no-one knows when it'll land) and quite a few others i'll 'like' but there's nothing life changing that i can think of...?
Absolutey agree with you Sid, it's a real shame that people trying something new have such a hard time trying to be recognised. The only team i can think of who have not had any trouble with new IPs of late is Rocksteady but thats what happens when you can make your first game around one of the most famous characters in fiction history. You not looking forward to Hitman, Max Payne, Spec Ops or Azuras Wrath?

Well i've never played a Max Payne game although i'll admit the new one does indeed look good, but i've kinda lived without it this long? Depending what else comes out around that time of year i could be tempted but i got stung by LA Noire last year so not sure - however the only other thing i can think of that'll be out over summer is the inevitable FIFA-esque EA football game for the euros!
Spec ops? Nope, me and shooters are not the best of friends, i like them but i'll have to see a lot more before i'll even consider it, military shooter is a slightly over saturated genre right now too!
Hitman - undecided. I liked some of the previous ones, but always thought the controls let the game down a bit. But there seems to be a lack of proper stealth titles nowadays so it might tempt me. Deus Ex i couldn't get on with despite completing, MGS comes out in a few weeks but played them all before, and Assassins Creed & Splinter Cell seem to have moved far more towards an action approach so this may be my sleeper hit!
Asuras Wrath - I was looking forward to this, but having played the demo i have removed it from even my 'worth a shot when it's cheap' list - there's another thread where i go into slightly more detail
Dishonored might be worth a look too, otherwise there's lots of games that look interesting (ssx, soul calibur, Halo 4 etc) but nothing that has me wetting my knickers.
Fair enough, but i saw some very early footage of Spec ops a while ago now and it looked something special even then. I too have walked away from the realistic shooter genre but this looks very interesting. Saying that, i have held out hope for different titles in the past and my over-active imagination has got the better of me in those cases. It all depends, if the money is available Amalur will be bought but if not it will have to wait.

Exclusive to Gold subscribers until next week, right? Because if I can't download it next week EA can shove it, and Mass Effect 3!
