Crystal Dynamics to announce "exciting new IP" this year, will become "top tier innovator"

Tomb Raider developer has more up its sleeve than Lara Croft

Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is working on a new IP - one that will cement its status as a "top tier innovator" - and will announce it sometime this year.

Community and communication manager Meagan Marie dropped the news in a blog post over at Square Enix Members.

"The New Year ushers in more than just fresh calendars and renewed resolutions. 2012 will prove to be a very exciting year for Crystal Dynamics, more so than any in recent memory.

"Not only will our team be eating, sleeping, and breathing Tomb Raider, but we'll also be hard at work preparing to reveal exciting new intellectual property to the world."

Crystal Dynamics has helmed the Tomb Raider series since Legend.
Crystal Dynamics will also be expanding soon ahead of its 20 year anniversary, according to Marie.

"Additionally, the New Year marks Crystal Dynamics' 20th anniversary. Despite the studio's veteran status, Crystal Dynamics is always eager to grow. We'll be working even harder in 2012 to produce product that positions us as a top tier innovator within the industry."

Platforms and likely release dates are, of course, yet to be announced. What could it be? And why can't you do a new Soul Reaver game first, Crystal?
