Alan Wake's American Nightmare will have more "in-your-face action"

And a new arcade mode, reveals Remedy

Alan Wake's American Nightmare will be more action-oriented than its predecessor, and will feature a new arcade mode called Fight 'til Dawn which bears some comparison to Gears of War's Horde mode.

Formally unveiled at the VGAs last weekend, American Nightmare is an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive that pits Wake against Mr Scratch, his evil alter ego. As in the 2010 original, you'll do battle with people possessed by darkness using a torch, flares and various guns.

"One of the things about Alan Wake is that people loved the story, the setting and the theme but people wanted more in-your-face action," Remedy Software vice president Aki Järvilehto told Eurogamer in an interview. "People wanted more variation, different types of enemies and different types of weapon."

There's not much detail on Fight 'til Dawn, but the title suggests some sort of survival affair. Alan Wake: American Nightmare is down for release in spring 2012.

  1. Alan Wake was a nicely written (deliberately over written) game with a great story. I really hope they don't sacrifice all of that in the hopes of attracting the CoD playing masses who still wont give this a second look.

It would indeed be a shame if they sacrifice the story line, but developers of course want more attention and profit so I can't really blame them.
