Assassin's Creed: Revelations multiplayer pros are a wily lot, every inch the bovine, computerised civvies till they suddenly whisk a razor blade across your jugular. If you want to beat 'em, you'll need to learn to recognise the signs.
Read our review and multiplayer feature? Here's a quick guide to spotting the wolves in sheep's clothing.
1. They changed direction suddenly
Did that merchant forget his keys? Or is it that a player's just assumed control of his body?
2. They're standing on the periphery of a crowd
Almost as if they're not actually part of the conversation. Almost as if they just snuck in there when they saw you looking. Almost as if they're going to stab you in the kidneys the second you walk past.
3. They're just standing there
Like John Wayne, or a man who's put down the control pad to eat another handful of pizza, or a man who's locking onto your position. Look at his feet. Do you see a faint spatter of VR mingle code? If you do, the stranger's an NPC. If not, run.
4. They're climbing a building
"Most impressive! What would make a man do such a thing? He'll hurt someone carrying on like that."5. They're glowing
Hello, Manhunt player using Templar Vision. Sorry, I've just remembered this urgent appointment I have down the alley, over that roof, behind that wall. Byeeeeee.
6. They're dripping hay
Somebody's just left the shelter of a haystack. He'll wish he'd stayed there in a few seconds.
7. An NPC has fallen over
Somebody's in a hurry, and hasn't taken the midday crowds into account. If you're feeling hasty, try not to sprint round corners or into plazas - you'll give yourself away to anybody lying in wait.
8. There's a crowd all dressed like your target
The assassin you're hunting has just deployed the Morph ability. Drop a smoke bomb and see who legs it.
9. There's a closed Chase Breaker nearby
Speeding up for half a second to shut a gate against suspected pursuers is one of the oldest tricks in the book. By your ways shall ye know them.
10. There's two of them on a bench
Hiding near an identical NPC makes things difficult for pursuers in some ways, but easier in others. On entering an area, look for twins. Your target should be among them.
