If you're terrified of getting slotted in Call of Duty: Black Ops, Modern Warfare 2, Battlefield 1943, Halo: Reach or Battlefield: Bad Company, you might want to give Toby Smiths a call. For the low, low price of five English pounds, he'll be your online bodyguard. Insane cultural milestone: reached.
"I will be your personal online bodyguard for 30 minutes in any of the following shooters on Xbox 360: Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty Black Ops, Halo Reach, Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield Bad Company 2," reads the relevant posting on fivesquids.
We suppose it's no more unreasonable than buying MMO currency. Or using an umbrella to shield yourself against negative thoughts.
Cash-strapped Duty-callers will be relieved to know that the 30 minute period doesn't include matchmaking delays. "This is 1/2 hour of GAME TIME, meaning time taken to join a game won't be included." The mark of a true professional. But what about expenses, Toby? We're not paying for your map packs.
Would you drop a fiver on this? If yes, have you given any thought to the idea that you can't actually die in a game?

I'm sure Activision will do a stellar job of curbing scams like this, like they do with the multiple emails saying I've breached the TOS of my non-existant WOW account and will I send them my username, password, mother's maiden name, credit card number, home address and times I'll be out of the house.

Who says this guy is any good? He might spawn and die constantly, or give your position away. Though I'll admit this isn't really a problem considering if you paid the guy you're probably retarded and wont notice anyway.

lol i could see this making you more of a target really. Everyone would be like ahh hes got that body guard dude, lets see how much of a good job he does..

doesn't this take away from the player learning to get better himself?
Surely a better usage of money (if you're really this stupid or desperate) would be to pay for lessons in how not to be shit?
In any case, I had a friend who owed me money once and he offered to pay me back in the form of being a bodyguard in COD - this was a few years ago mind. (I didn't take him up on it)
So this is nothing new, to me at least.

Presuming his gamertag is public then he will be targeted especially because people like victimising others.
I can see the point of it, seems like a fun job if you're any good at shooters. I don't think I'd ever go for it though, I don't have that kind of money, I have to pay people in buttons mostly.
I think we all know what to get Wishface for Christmas if we bag him in the OXM secret santa

I can't see it being much use in Call of duty at all. Even if he is a great player, he protects you... then surely hes going to be stealing your kills and not really doing you much good at all. If anyone pays for this then they seriously have too much money, in which case I'm also available for £5 for half an hour.

Is this guy for real??? He wants to make money out of gullible and skill-less gamers by charging them to play PROPERLY???
Covering team mates should be a given. Not that many online gamers actually care about anything other than their own personal kill rate but covering and helping team mates is what multiplayer games should be about. They are TEAM games after all. And who doesn't actually understand that two or three gamers working together aren't more deadly than a few individuals working alone? Come on, this seriously basic tatics.
This £5-kid has surely never played a co-op game. Because if he had, he'd see how much people work together, and carry out what he will (f*cking) cheekily invoice you for! His attitude highlights exactly what's wrong with (practically all) multiplayer gamers and why the absolute best team work found in any title, on any platform, is in co-op games and not adversarial multiplayer.
For me this kid has little respect for other gamers, pretty low morals (making money out of other gamers by playing properly has to be the pits!), and is probably an absolutely dreadful gamer. Someone with any kind of noticeable skill would automatically be covering team mates, and by helping out everyone by doing his best to win the round for the team. Anyone who's pathetic enough to sit in a corner, and pay another gamer to sit with them, and keep them alive needs to find a new hobby, or learn how to communicate with others and try and encourage others to play as a team. In fact I question whether there's a single gamer out there that wants to play a shooter and have other people "defend" them. Ridiculous. Really sad, and utterly pathetic. I'd like to see all the major game publishers ban him. Do we really want to bring this desperate need to make money from fellow gamers into shooter gaming culture? Let's leave the idiots who spend money in games in the MMORPG. Shooters should be about the fun and thrill of the virtual battle.
If I found this guy in a game I was playing I'd specifically target him and the idiot he's supposed to body-guard too! And I know who'd come out worse.
Anyway, it begs the question, what's the next pathetic idea to come out of a gamer hoping to profit from another's lack of gaming skill? Hiring a gamer to sit next to you and drive, ride, walk your character to the next battle or village in shooters/RPGs, etc? They could even make you drinks, and empty the pot you p*ss in... if it's too much trouble to even move!
