The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Review

Bethesda's new Elder Scrolls is a world apart

As Christopher Ecclestone once said to Billie Piper, lots of planets have a North. North means tough, straight-talking men and inhospitable terrain. North means tradition, old gods, and a dislike of fancy speaking. North means conflict with the South. And in The Elder Scroll's continent of Tamriel, North means Skyrim. And dragons. Dragons like the one that's just interrupted your execution.

There's no complicated character set-up here - Skyrim's slick skill system renders that process redundant. Each race has predispositions - from the sneaky cat Khajiit to the magically-inclined High Elves, to the stoic, melee Nord. While it makes sense to choose the race with the predispositions that most match your own, don't worry too much about it. The chances that come later can easily outweigh your initial bonuses.

Falmer - half-blind, but can easily overwhelm you if you're careless
Then, it's on with the plot. Or rather, the plots. Skyrim's a game that's difficult to spoil, because anything I say here will only be a tiny cross-section of the game's massive offering. But it's always a sensitive area, so I'll avoid specifics. Aside from dealing with the dragons - creatures who're tough, but being part of the main plot, not insurmountable - you'll have the civil unrest that's being fomented against the Imperials by Ulfric Stormcloak. You'll have warring families to deal with, rogue necromancers to despatch. And there's a girl in Whiterun who wants to play tag, if you think you're man enough for the task. On top of everything else, you'll have the guilds to join and master.

The College of Winterhold is the equivalent of the mage's guild, where you can improve in the five arcane branches of magic. The Companions in Whiterun are fondly regarded by the locals, but they also have an interesting secret. Turning up at Riften will bring you to the attention of the Thieves' Guild, and if you walk into Windhelm looking to join Ulfric Stormcloak in the rebellon, you might also overhear someone talking about the Dark Brotherhood.

Other towns have their own secrets. Falkreath is a miserable location with Skyrim's largest graveyard. Helgen, the location of your interrupted execution, has Skyrim's oldest tree just outside it, and a bloody tough hag camped outside, slinging fireballs around. Dawnstar is - my God, I've clocked 60 hours on this monster and I haven't been to Dawnstar yet. Mental note. Go there. Maybe after I've gone back to Whiterun to confront that woman who signed the contract on my life. And found that Redguard woman who the travelling warriors are so keen to find. Look, I'll get to Dawnstar eventually.

Finishing moves - a manly full stop to a skirmish
Killing your first dragon lets you know you're a Dragonborn. It's fairly obvious - the massive dude's soul zips out and flies into your face. These souls power Skyrim's unique feature: the shouts. They're easily forgotten, tucked away on the right bumper, but they're tied to no resource save their own cooldown, so they're extremely useful in a pinch. Unrelenting Force - shown in every demo - can be used to knock back enemies. It can also be used to bellow everything off a table in a tavern, if you want to be a needless dick. Other shouts include (but are not limited to) slowing time, breathing fire, calming storms, and fading away. Fade is more of an escape method than a stealth tool, for the simple enough reason that you have to yell like a giant lizard to activate it. In my experience, nothing puts a potential pickpocket victim on their guard like someone behind them bellowing in an ancient tongue.

Each race comes with a few of the 18 skills pre-boosted, but for the most part, you'll improve them by using them. The lockpicking mini-game is simple, but extremely fair - if you're willing to snap a dozen lockpicks, even an apprentice thief can crack a master lock. Sneaking is easy to ignore at first. Even with my Khajiit's natural talents, it's not a viable tactic until you've boosted your skill level and selected a few perks. The first perk on every skill tree is a virtual essential to using it - halving the magicka or stamina cost, substantial boosts to success rate, and so on.

  2. Yey!!! This and C&VG giving it 9.5 takes away any doubt there may have been! Can't wait until tomorrow now! Now off to read the review!

  3. Dragons. . like the one which just interrupted your execution.

    hope that wasnt a spoiler!!

    Don't worry, it's really not.

  5. It's a measure of my anticipation of this game that I was actually counting down the minutes until the review embargo was lifted just so I read more about what is sure to be my favourite game of all time. I was expecting nothing less than 10/10 and Skyrim/OXM have delivered.

Roll on tomorrow and so long social life/fifa 12/battlefield 3

  6. Do you think they'll patch the shortcut system over time? Surely using the d-pad 4-way as a select for 4 fave load outs would have been better?

  7. Despite what the big number 10 below implies, the game isn't perfect.

I don't think you should give away the score in the middle of the review. It probably makes sense in the mag when you can see the score straight away, but here you don't see it 'til the end.

Id like to thank Mr.Log for the outstanding review, which when combined with all the other articles that are Skyrim centric has taken up my social life for the past 2 weeks.

This game has been a long time coming and there are not words available to describe my satisfaction knowing that i will be in for the adventure of a lifetime.

    Thanks again!

  9. Unlucky for some i got it in the post this morning  HAHAHAHA YES!!!!

I'd hope so. The favourites system (up/down on D-Pad) is good, though, and gives you the flexibility a game with this much choice demands. I wouldn't want to lose that.

I'd just replace the presets system (left/right on D-Pad) with a system of cycling through three or four loadouts. The action pauses while you're doing this - it would be much better than the current system.

I love that my only complaint is the menu system

Haha! I spoiled my own review!

    REJOICE!!

  14. the score is irrelevant the review was good

nice to hear some fair criticism concerning the shortcut system though i have to admit i used o enjoy looking at my character in the menus in oblivion...

    cant wait

  15. FIRST! :)

Please don't do that again, or join an American site if you must.

Nice review Log, and the fact the only complaint you have is menu system is a great sign. My only question (possibly best answered by Toxic) is do the Argonians still walk like they crapped themselves when in 3rd person? I'd really like to play one for a change but the weird splayed legs has always put me off.

  16. Unlucky for some i got it in the post this morning  HAHAHAHA YES!!!!

As did every other person that ordered from Game/Gameplay/Shopto and the like...

  17. How does it play generally in 3rd person?

I usually like exploring the world in 3rd person, indoors 1st person in bethesdas games -
oblivion was rubbish in 3rd person for combat but was much improved in fallout 3.

Im wondering/hoping i can play the entire game in 3rd person and it feel like it was meant to be played that way and if the footage ive seen in clips of 3rd person i looks like i can...

LOL! Cant wait for this to arrive in the post. Ive ordered the Collectors Edition! I cant decide if i should play the game first or spend the day playing with a plastic dragon!

I ordered from Shopto and didn't get it today :( fml

How does it play generally in 3rd person?

Just watched the IGN video review and combat and general play seem really viable this time in 3rd person, it looks great.

  20. I ordered from Shopto and didn't get it today :( fml

That is a real shitter.

  21. cant wait, will be trading in my copy of battlefield as game then sell it to me for £4.99

  22. Just got home to a Sorry We Missed You... card and this review made me realise what was in the package. I'm sad now. :(

You either have the smallest letter box in the world, or you got the mammoth collectors edition. Or you're in shared flats with no mailboxes.

I have just right now (yeah, 3.15 postman, lazy!) received it and installed to hard drive - 3.8GB wtf? Seriously!! How can you fit the game into that?! Oblivion was 5.9GB... Mental!

    3.8 GIG!?!?!? For real?

    That is mental.

Having watched the leaked first 10 minutes or so, yes it is. It may not be a huge plot point, but it is without doubt a spoiler.

  26. Just wrote a letter to the mrs explaining my future whereabouts

  27. Cunning , if it's anything like Oblivion , the Argonians and Khajit walking animations are no different than anyone eles.

Now , morrowind on the other hand....... dammit they couldn't even equip shoes or helmets.

  28. Unless AC: Revelations is amazing, we may be looking at GOTY.

  29. I pre-ordered the Collectors Edition in store so I have to wait till tomorrow. Livid.

  30. IMPORTANT - I said I installed to xbox, BEWARE! Apparently it does the opposite of what you'd expect, and gives poorer textures, and I can confirm the textures are poor when installed, though I prefer my HDD over graphical prowess.

This is a bit of an omission from the review, for which I apologise. I found myself using the third person view much more than I did with Oblivion. Almost 100% of the time, in fact. I only used the first person for "oh my God look at that" moments and running away. The third person camera is slightly becomes less reliable when you're indoors, panicking and running away from a Chaurus and a couple of Falmer.

  32. Thanks for the reply!

Its also cool looking at all your nice armour and weaponry strapped to your back

  33. aaarrrggghhh!!!!!! my local gamestop are not doing midnight release, so i have to wait til morning! although, they are opening at 8 and not 10, so when the wife goes off at 8 i'll take the babby in his buggy for a VERY brisk walk... and then spike his bottle with rum....

Really? Can this be confirmed? What connection are you using for your xbox to your TV? I would normally aim to install to HD also but if it's resulting in poorer textures I may well not bother (have a new 250Gb XBox so noise isn't an issue anymore).

    Can anyone else confirm this?

I could be expecting a young one soon, already hating the idea of not being able to obsess over Bethesda's fine work :( :(

I have no idea what this is all about, but isn't there meant to be a day 1 patch for the game?

I thought I just did confirm this lol. HDMI, 1080p, but they are both irrelevant. I've tried with and without HDD install and the textures on install on your left and right hand items (and hands/forearms) have poorer textures compared to non-install. Google skyrim install for some more confirmations. The rest of the game looks fab, but it's quite noticably poorer on stuff. Just to clarify, the poor textures are only on your character in first person view.

I have downloaded something when I put skyrim in, hopefully there is something to get rid of this tomorrow, it's nowhere near gamebreaking though.

  38. f**k YES!!! i get out of school dead early tmro, around 9 or 10, so i can get down to my local gamestation, call all the people who have been waiting for the place to open nerds, and GET SKYRIM!!!!!!!!!! (cos i have it pre-orderd)
by the way, i need some advice, i dont know weather to sell my copy of Oblivion (5th anaversary edition) for money off, or keep it as im 2 achivements away from getting 100% of the achivements... any advice?

  39. well i would offer u a cake that a promised for giving it 10/10 BUT! THE CAKE WAS A LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. Im loving the game so far its all I could of asked for. The enviroments are awsome the AI is great and there is tons to do. My earliest mistake I made was attacking a giant fighting a mammoth at level 3 it didnt end well I will bear that in mind next time I walk into those ugly mugs.

  41. It really couldn't have got any other score. Oblivion was re-scored to a 10 from the original 8, and justifiably so. Since Skyrim improves on Oblivion in pretty much every way, a 10/10 was almost inevitable.

I had heard about the texture problems when installing to HDD and that it wasn't being fixed in the launch day patch, but I'd rather my media room (read: cramped spare bedroom) didn't sound like Heathrow Airport in the middle of August all the time I'm playing it. I'll have enough of that for the first couple of minutes after I start the game thanks to Microsoft's stupid new disc check. Hopefully Bethesda will fix it sharpish, why they haven't picked up on it already baffles me since installing to HDD isn't exactly unusual.

I'm hoping this will be the one game I buy at launch this year that doesn't disappoint.

You did but was curious on whether it was limited to certain models/connections (VGA, HDMI, Component etc). However from the link above it does seem to a universal issue.

Away on business at the mo so won't get to play it until I'm home next weekend :-( but will play from disk until there's a fix me thinks.

    Thanks

  43. Thank you for a review that addresses what's been frustrating the hell out of me in all the other reviews of this game. The fact that people are knocking a point or two off for a few bugs.

Frankly, as the reviewer seems to believe and so do I, the fact that the game is so massive and amazing should totally negate the bugs and a few playability issues. Or in other words, I'd much rather have a game that's this ambitious and hits almost all the notes right than a smaller game that's more safe but bug free and controls better.

  44. OXMLog, Great review, after playing for a couple of hours the one niggle I had was with the weapon select option. Thought it was me just being useless. Otherwise what an awesome game. Can't wait to get home to see whats around the next corner. :D

  45. spot on with the favorites menu, they could have made better use of the d pad, have weapons as up,apparel as down, potions as left, spells as right or something like that.
other than that, i barely came off the game from 9am to 3am and the wife's gone shopping with the wee lad so i get a good few hours this afternoon

  46. Played this yesterday for a straight 8 hours and it was so involving, have killed 2 dragons, 1 of them was a random encounter and the other was part of a quest. A huge dragon circled me for 5 mins then just buggered off, scared the crap out of me, skyrim is amazing and so involved and random the dragon battles last ages and are a very diffcult to predict. Bethesda have really got the dragon AI spot on!

  47. Bethesda have really got the dragon AI spot on!

I genuinely laughed out loud at that. Fantastic!

  48. This is a good game, but Stamina regenerates too slowly and 2h attacks are way too powerful: you are momentarily staggered even if you block, and you will either lose half your stamina or take a pounding if you don't block.

  49. is skyrim a singleplayer game or u play online with others?

  50. Single player only...!

  51. Bethesda have really got the dragon AI spot on!

I genuinely laughed out loud at that. Fantastic!

Agreed. Ironic post of the week :)

  52. Single player only...!

    thnx!

  53. Best game I have ever played.

  54. what level should you be for the bandit chief in Halted Stream Mine because he and his two mates are killing me!

  55. id leave it and come back later wishface - ive come across 4 dungeons that were all way above me and all but 3 meant a hasty retreat.

the 4th 1 was hard as nails at level 7 and chewed up most of my potions to conquer (Grummy found i hard at level 15 too!)

ive only played around 12 hours and just killed my first dragon but i think this may well be the best game ive ever played

  56. As much as i like this game the menu is beyond stupid, a complete backward step from the fallout games. Seriously its ridiculous e.g. to swap or trade weapons takes about 3 times as long no wonder its a 200hr game (reportedly) - if the menu wasn't like it was it'd be 100hr max!!!

I won't say it's a bad system, but i haven't gotten used to it yet. I keep pressing start instead of B and vice versa.

I've just had a companion (lower case) foisted on me. I'm not sure this is a good thing as i'm trying to play a sneaky archery character and some idiot shuffling around behind me is going to aggro everything. Archery could stand to be a bit tougher from the start; it's one of those things you need to buff to get th emost out of.

I'm glad there's a lot of crafting in the game, but i'm not a huge fan of having to randomly chance across random ingredients to then work out what they do. It didn't work in New Vegas because there was no reliable source for any single ingredident.

  58. Ah me...I can't resist can I. There's me in Game on release day and I have in my grubby mit an empty box with Skyrim written on it. The geezer behind the counter spots me as an easy target and says.......'do you want the manual to go with the game, only £20'...Initially I decline, then I see how thick it is and remember just how good the manual for Bioshock 2 was I take the plunge. Am I glad I did. There's 654 pages of the sort of info essential to good aimless wandering. The manual 'Official Game Guide...The Elder Scrolls V...SKYRIM' comes in a sexy black leather effect, smooth as silk cover with raised lettering in silver. If they'd made it a hardback I'd be in rapture. IF they'd made it of real leather I'd be sitting in my study poring over the details and not playing the game.I think they've missed a chance here of pulling suckers like me further in by giving me the impression that some monastic monks have laboured over the intricate details. I'm going to be dipping in and out of this mighty tome and the game itself for months and months. I still pronounce the game....SKRIM! The name has stuck with ever since I first read it in one of the X Box mags about 750 years ago!
Enjoy people....this is soooo much better than those shoot 'em ups an' no mistake!

  59. Game were selling the guide for £10 if you brought it with the game. Not full price.

  60. The dragon fights are overpowered. Archery desperately needs some form of auto aim given that it starts off pathetically weak and that to make it useful you have to level it up massively. How on earth you are meant to avoid being immolated i don't know.

  61. Game were selling the guide for £10 if you brought it with the game. Not full price.

Quite right, I've just checked my receipt......£10 indeed!

  62. I can't believe I only just found time to go get it today :D now I just have to find time to play the damn thing. Oh what a labour of love this will be. And I just finished a quick run through of New Vegas too so no distractions apart from the odd game of Halo CE this week. Let's hope that that doesn't arrive in the post tomorrow as I have an induction at the gym in preparation for all the food and drink of the festive season :D :D :D :D

  63. Bethesda have really got the dragon AI spot on!

Sorry not being arsy but did i say something funny ??? confused?

  64. While trying to get to High Hrothgar I walked off yet another cliff face (I really must pay more attention to my safety). Anyway, on my way down the cliff face, sort of zig zaggy because I was frantically trying to traverse across the slope to arrest the decent a bit. On my way down slope I was joined by my 'Housekarl, Lydia'...she'd stepped off the cliff face as well, she said she'd watch my back and follow me anywhere...which is what she did. Facing each other, we decended to the bottom, slowly and with dignity, she had a resigned 'oh well, I said I'd watch his back' look! A Good girl is Lydia...I must get her some better armour and maybe a bar of soap and a towell!
Loads of little niggles in this game but mostly they clear up as soon as they arise and I'm enjoying every minute! Level six now, going on seven. Fun, fun, fun!

  65. Spent well over 10 hours on this game already. Absolutely love it; but then again, in hindsight there's no way Bethesda could have gone wrong. One thing that has struck me though, is that I don't remember having to walk massive distances to new locations as much in Oblivion as I have in this one. Perhaps it's just me...

I was legging it across the 7,000 Steps to get away from the hard-ass Frost Troll that's up there and managed to run off the cliff as well. After much stumbling and scrabbling I eventually fell gracefully on top of a witch, which luckily enough was part of another quest I had started. Side note: Hagravens are ugly as hell and freakin' difficult to beat!

When I finally returned to the cliff where I fell, I found brave Lydia dead as a dodo. Poor lass! I didn't avenge her though because Frost Trolls are terrifying, so I sneaked by instead.

I kinda see what you mean. It did take me an hour this morning to get from whiterun to solitude. Great pilgrimage though.

Plus does anyone else think the map is a bit of pain to use?

  68. what level should you be for the bandit chief in Halted Stream Mine because he and his two mates are killing me!

granted i'm a higher level, but i foud if your sneak and archery is good i just sat in the shadows, fired a poisoned shot and backed off into shadows till they calmed down. then repeat till he's dead. the chief has the big helmet on and is who you want to take out first. conjuring a creature helps as a distraction if things get hairy

there were a few places at the start on my way to the first main quest town where i got it handed to me, avoided it and now go back and teach them pesky bandits a few lessons on how to get your head mashed with a dwarven mace

  69. While I agree that it is a fantastic game, I'm not sure whether it is deserving of a 10/10. This problem, I think, actually stems from the increasing number of 9's and 10's being given to games which are far from perfect - take Batman: Arkham City, Uncharted 3 or Mass Effect 2, for example. We've now reached the point where 7's and 8's infer the game is average and unimpressive. I'd say Skyrim is a solid 9/10, taking into account the technical issues, visual glitches, outdated gameplay mechanics and mediocre voice acting, of course. However, to many people, and OXM included, the positives are going to easily outweigh the aforementioned niggles.

Personally, after 27 hours of gameplay, I'm loving it.

  70. Amazing game and nearly faultless, but one feature they could have added to add a bit more strategy a collectable essence to the game would have been a bestiary, which would allow you to view the 3d models in the loading screens, and you discover more about the enemies by fighting them, observing them or reading about them. This would have given the creatures and enemies of Skyrim a more realistic essence and would have allowed for more tactical play. It would also give scout and assassin type players more reason to be stealthier than just a damage boost. And finally, it would have allowed players to witness the fantastic AI with an added bonus of achievement.

  71. FIRST! :)

    Feck off idiot.

I kinda see what you mean. It did take me an hour this morning to get from whiterun to solitude. Great pilgrimage though.

Plus does anyone else think the map is a bit of pain to use?

The only thing I don't like about the Skyrim map is that it has clouds which obscure the view of some areas. I do miss the parchment-style map from Oblivion as well.

Also, following on from my point about travelling, it was when I got to Riften that I found you can pay a carriage to take you to any city in Skyrim. My one criticism somewhat addressed then! :)

  73. Poor Lydia...she daed (said in a Hill Billy accent). She who watches my back is no more. I jump into a Stormcloak camp from above, ready to cause mayhem and I automatically listen for the backup shuffling of Lyd. Silence, where has that blessed girl got to now! I turn, scanning for this shootin' slicing oppo of mine. Then to my utter dismay I see her impaled on some 'anti leaping into the camp from above spikes' placed there by the Stormcloaks. She looks back at me with a resigned, empty and silent stare...I feel guilty. She 'had my back' right to the end. The Stormcloaks seem more interested in passing remarks between themselves about who or what it was that just descended on them are in total confusion. I was going to join their cause, not now though. They are the reason my Lyd's death and they will suffer for it. After slaughtering all and sundry and getting upgraded 'smacky, uppy' skills into the bargain I go back to the impaled Lydia....and strip her down to her bra and knicks (am I becoming a perve). I can't haul her off the spikes and bury her, I feel bad about it. GOT IT!, for you my love...yep, it was love at first slash, I will go back to an earlier game and reserect you...they say love has no boundaries or sight.
Skyrim...you've changed me from an uncaring, cynical male into....what exactly...I don't know and I don't care!

  74. lol, i have managed to get 3 followers killed, by their pure stupidity. one was an orcish woman. my god, they really dont put brains in them things. sneaking through dungeons she stepped on every trap trigger there was, getting herself repeatedly mashed against the wall by them spikey swinging door thingies. so i told her to wait over the other side of the room till i cleared the dungeon. as i came back via another route into the room, lo and behold the dumb b*tch is getting mashed against the wall. again and again. its ok love, you stay there. have fun. i'm off to SNEAK WHEN I CROUCH and avoid the big circles on the floor that mysteriously get me mashed into the wall

  75. I don't doubt that people are all commenting how awesome this game is, but I'm still quite prepared to agree. I've been a gamer for the last 20+ years and this is my first real time playing any kind of RPG. I played a bit of fable, and also Diablo on pc but quickly got bored of them.

Recently I bought skyrim and also gears of war 3 and apart from 30 minutes playing GOW3, skyrim has not left the console.

I cannot believe how great this game is. I love the open world element, even though I have probably strayed too far too soon and end up fighting enemies who are too tough for my character yet. I especially like the fact I'm not forced to create a class at all. I can play at my own pace, at my own style, and tailor my character to suit as I go along.

My only problem with this game is that I don't have enough time to play it. In fact I have a long weekend booked off work next weekend and I'm looking forward to delivering the kids to school then coming home for a bloody good session.

It may seem improbable but I even look forward to x factor every weekend - so I can play skyrim in the other room while the wife watches tv without complaining about me being anti social.

  76. The game is ruined by the idiotic level scaling. Whomever is responsible for this needs f**king firing ASAP.

Everytime i make some progress in this game I hit some mob or a group that are just so overpowered the game falls to pieces. This happens all the time. It takes the wind right out of your sails and it's just spoilt the game completely. Mobs that take not even a tenth of my damage output and yet can barely need to hit me twice to kill me, regardless of my armour or weapons. I've got 70 in archery, a glass bow and glass arrows. I'm doing 60 damage per hit ffs, before anything else including the MANY perks in archery that I have and yet they take a couple of points per hit. I've got superior elven light armour (i wear light armour, obv.) and i might as well be naked for all the difference.

If they don't get this nonsense patched this game is a waste of time. The experience is completely ruined by this.

  77. I really just cannot understand if you post what you do (I'll refrain from calling it drivel because everyone deserves their opinion) to be deliberately provocative, if it's a result of a few too many stellas/babychams, or if you just enjoy the (inevitably negative) attention?

By even pressing the reply button i've spent more time answering your post than it deserves - people have responded to your (repeated) posts already and maybe because it wasn't what you wanted to hear you've ignored them?

Contrary to your opinion, i believe whoever is responsible for skyrim deserves both a payrise and promotion. Coma uses arrows and has nowhere near the issues you have. My character doesn't wear any armour and doesn't have the issues you repeatedly exaggerate. Either you've over levelled your character with shitty non-combat skills or frankly you're just shit and need to work out how to turn the difficulty down.

Even if the balance is off on occasion, does it warrant the kind of strop and sulking you'd associate with a 5 year old? People need firing? The game is ruined? Geez, seriously grow up or stfu...!

  78. Frankly i think your just full OF shit.

the level scaling is fine - twice in the first 20 hours i found areas a bit tricky - for he 120 hours AFTER that i have yet to find any trouble.

if your having trouble with the archery switch to a sword

either way - last time ill pos in reply to any nonsense you say.

  79. You do know people there is this handy foe option we can use  Maybe time to utilise mine as im also tired of this drivel and babyish behaviour "sigh" reminds me of old Tez

  80. Frankly i think your just full OF shit.

You clearly have no clue as to what level scaling is. It makes no difference what weapon or attack you use because the game thinks you are powerful enough to handle the mob in question. It's a fault of the design. Obviously there are certain brackets of level which if you happen to be at the lower end of mean that you get clobbered and nothing you can wear, wield or do will change that. Followers make no difference, these mobs will knock them down in a single hit. Summon a Storm Atronach, for instance (i had a scroll) and the same thing; it gets taken out in one hit. The game is totally wonky.

But god forbid anyone should point out problems with Skyrim!

Then don't f**king reply you thick c**t. I don't recall putting a gun to your head.

Level scaling is a huge issue with this game. Just because you and numbnuts over there haven't experienced it doesn't mean a damn thing because of how it works. The game is not balanced.

  82. I'm thick for pressing a reply button when it's beyond your comprehension to turn the difficulty down of something you're finding too difficult? As for the other language and over the top (seems a theme with you?) aggression, i'll not sink to that level, you've shown with your post the intelligence and class you clearly don't possess.

Every game has flaws, but we all come onto a forum like this to talk about games and compare stories, not await your frankly boring and repetitive diatribe about every single release. In recent memory I can recall you've claimed each of these completely broken, ruined, unbalanced, unclear or unfair:

    Dark Souls
    Battlefield 3
    CoD MW3
    Skyrim
    Rage
    Assassins Creed

There's probably more that i've missed but why in the blue hell do you think you upset so many people? There's always 'one' in every office, every factory, and now seemingly every forum that strives to make it unpleasant for everyone else. Congratulations, maybe we can have a whip round and present you with a trophy for being our number 1 at speaking number 2.

  83. One quick question Wishface what is your favourite game?

  84. Then don't ******* reply you thick ****. I don't recall putting a gun to your head. EDITED BY MOD TO UPHOLD DECENCY

Wishface, you seem to have forgotten the polite warning I sent you a while back. Let me make it transparent for all to see.....

One more post like this and you will be banned. End of.

There are ways to reply and yours lack the taste and decency expected of adults discussing their hobby on an open forum. So with that in mind, please try and keep it clean.

    Thanks.

f**k your polite warning. I've got better things to do than sit and justify my opinions to a bunch of thick c**ts that dont' even show me the courtesy of reading what I f**king write.

  86. See you then!

The BANHAMMER has been wielded......

  87. that dont' even show me the courtesy of reading what I write.

    Bye!! Going to miss you!!

That last bit of text I quoted is pretty much what you are the biggest perpetrator of!

  88. That Bezza, is exactly my point that i've been trying to get across in multiple threads, but what can you do...? Hypocritical doesn't even begin to describe it.

Why is it whenever i hear 'banhammer' i think of the Halo gravity hammer? :)

Ah well, shows over, back to increasing someone else's kill ratio in battlefield!

  89. Oh dear what are we going to do without Wishfaces input and wit the forums will never be the same

  90. Oh dear what are we going to do without Wishfaces input and wit the forums will never be the same

I am bordering on reaching for the pro-zac myself but he was warned!.....

  91. What did you go and ban him for?

This place could do with some controversy.

Just becasue i was tired of trying to helpful to wishface and offer any more advice - doesnt mean that his posts werent at least entertaining occasionally...

  92. Ah....... Fear not, he'll be back under a new name but praising every game this time round, R.I.P wishface the bi-polar cabbage.

Kernow, i see your taking the bungie forum approach ... keep it clean.... banhammer etc.

  93. Then don't f**king reply you thick c**t. I don't recall putting a gun to your head.

    @Comabob,

Despite repeated warnings being sent via the proper warning system, he still came back to me with the above. Controversy is all well and good but when it's downright abusive, I have to draw the line somewhere. I don't do this "job" for any personal gain so I don't expect that kind of stuff thrown my way when all I'm trying to do is uphold the rules set out by the OXM staff.

Bearing in mind that this site is not only read by adults I ask you this. Would you be happy for your child to use a forum where such abuse goes on without anything being done about it?......

    @Guilty Sparks

First of all wishface will not be back under a different username because I've also banned his I.P. address and just in case he's smart enough to try using a dynamic I.P, I've got that covered as well.....

Oh and I'd really like to think that as a moderator, I do a decent job overall. I've never been one to enforce the rules with the utmost strictness because if I did, I'd be banning almost everyone on here, including me, but I do draw the line at the abuse wishface has been handing out recently.

If the OXM staff want him re-instated then fine, no problems here but they will be looking for a new moderator who is willing to do the work I do and put up with abuse in bucket loads........

  94. Then don't f**king reply you thick c**t. I don't recall putting a gun to your head.

Don't get me wrong.. it was meant as a compliment, as the only moderator i'm sure you must put up with a hell of a lot, to be quite honest, i'm suprised that OXM don't issue you with a free copy of the magazine each month for the work you put in, you deserve some small incentive at the very least.

  95. Wow, the end of an era.

I could start being unreasonably belligerent if you like? :-P

Glad I popped into this thread now (where really I have no place as a shameless conscientious objector to ES5) ;)

Can I just join everyone else in saying good bye 'Face, you will only be missed because they've fixed quick scoping and I'm a lousy shot.

And thanks to Kernow. You do put up with a lot of cr*p and I for one am greatful for the fact you have the patience of a saint.

  97. We never did find out if he actually liked any games either...........probably not.

    See ya tosser!

  98. I just wanted to add that although I am still thoroughly amazed by this game (it only leaves the Xbox so my kids can play skylanders) I was gutted to learn that gamestation are selling it half price this week. I paid full whack in tesco only two weeks ago.

Only consolation is that I managed to order batman arkham city half price on play.com on Monday so looking forward to playing it.

  99. Yeah it's a bit of a kick in the teeth the whole price drop thing but i have pretty mixed feelings about it. I'm not entirely sure how much Bethesda can control that or if they had any input at all, the shops would still have bought it in at cost etc. so think the finger of blame should point more to the retailers?

Like someone above said, on the flip side, of all the games i've spent money on over the last few weeks, skyrim is the one i wouldn't have felt ripped off by if it'd cost double so looking at it that way softens the blow somewhat...
