New Assassin's Creed coming 2012 after predicted fall in Revelations sales

Ubisoft being "careful and prudent" with Ezio's final act

Ubisoft has confirmed that another Assassin's Creed title will launch next year, maintaining the release pattern established with Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. The company has "high expectations" for this year's Assassin's Creed: Revelations, but reckons it'll drop off the charts faster than Brotherhood.

In a conference call with investors picked up by Gamasutra, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that preorder numbers for the latest Assassin's Creed game are "significantly higher than last year". The company's financial guidance is, however, assuming that the new title will see a "double digit decline" in sales compared to Brotherhood. Franchise fatigue kicking in?

Assassin's Creed: Revelations seals the fates of both Ezio and Altair.
"We want to be careful and prudent, but we have high expectations for the product," Guillemot stated, pointing to enthusiastic Assassin's Creed: Revelations previews and strong consumer interest. The Assassin's Creed series has sold 31 million copies worldwide to date. Can Revelations take it up to 40 million?

And will next year's Assassin's Creed be another subtitled spin-off, or the long-awaited Assassin's Creed 3? There's little concrete info on the latter, though Ubisoft hasn't ruled out an appearance by Assassin's Creed 2's Ezio da Auditore. Here are some potential Assassin's Creed 3 settings.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations is out on 15th November for Xbox 360. Are you buying?

  1. Day 1 buy for me (already ordered off shopto), The AC series is (in my opinion) one of the very few that improves with each installment & i genuinely can't wait to see where the story goes & what happens to Ezio.

As for the announcement of the 2012 game, bring it on i say. In a market oversaturated with shooters i think AC is a genuine breath of fresh air.

  2. I loved every second of all the previous Assassins creed games (Assassins Creed 1 will always be my fave however), but sadly, i have not pre-ordered and will probably get this game as a christmas gift on in a couple of months time. I love the story and gameplay of the recent installments, however there are 2 things stopping me buying what im sure will be an epic game:-

Skyrim comes out on FRODAY!!! THANK GOD! And so 4 days until AC:R is released is impossible for me to put Skyrim down for a different title. As well as this, the fact that this will be Ezio's third game (a character im not really fond of) and i feel like his story arc is being unecessarily stretched...aswell as these, after seeing the (sort of) tower defence game areas in revelations (when you protect your bases from templars) it is stunning to look at how much the game has changed in every way.

AC will always be a beautiful looking title, with exciting plots and awesome gameplay features, but they have made a game that has nothing to do with the first installment, the only assassins creed game were i actually felt like a secret assassin rather than an action hero....i thought assassins werent supposed to be known, not known by the whole world?...

  3. This is the first AC game I'm not buying on day one, simply because I'm short of cash, otherwise I'd be there straight away.

From a story point of view I'm not surprised by this news. 2012 is a key year in the Desmond story arc, and not only makes no financial sense to put off AC3 until 2013, it would actually render the plot pointless.

  4. Froday! You getting a dedicated Skyrim Afro traceurjosh?

I hope to Jebus that ACIII is announced as the 2012 title, if not for what cunningsmile said.

  5. I'm a massive fan of the Assassin's Creed series, I have been from the first game, and it has gotten better and better over the last five years. With an amazing single player experience in the heart of historic Syria, Assasson's Creed easily became my favourite game as it allowed people to become thier fictional hero/idol. AC:II was even better except it was more in depth, had a better setting and a younger main character but it lacked the originalness of the first game. AC:Brotherhood gave an insight into what Ubisoft could do with multiplayer for the Assassin's Creed series and produced a stunner of a game both in single player and multiplayer. If Assassin's Creed: Revelations can continue the run of form and be better than Brotherhood, in both single and mutiplayer, there will be a lot of happy fans out there; me included.
