Homefront developer Kaos Studios might have shed staff earlier this year, but the shonky, respectable FPS it crafted has sold strongly worldwide, and THQ isn't about to write off a proven commercial property.
The company's brought in Crytek, developer of the acclaimed Crysis shooters, to work on the next game in the Homefront universe. Currently untitled, the sequel "will benefit from the very latest CryENGINE technology" and is slated for release on consoles and PC in THQ's financial year 2014.

"Homefront's unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek's industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we're supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand."
"We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ," added Crytek boss Cevat Yerli. "We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game.
"It's really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way."
Crytek's Nottingham Studio, formerly Free Radical, is taking the lead on this one.
Xbox 720 launch title, anybody? It's far from impossible. What would you do differently with Homefront 2? Back in March, Kaos Studios said it had "concrete plans" for a sequel.

'What would you do differently' it's a tough one to say. Homefront I found was dreadfully dull, but I can't pin down any particular reason why, it just was.
All I can say is that this SEEMS to be a good move, bringing in Crytek, but we shall have to wait and see, after all, Crysis is a very different prospect from Homefront.

Better story would be a start. Was such cliched drivel. Plus a chance to choose what side you are couldn't go a miss

Ahh but the guy said the story and universe was 'unique', clearly you must be mistaken...hmmm...
I never played the first one but anything which has Free Radical at the helm can't be bad, even Crysis 2 ticked a lot of boxes for me.
